Meet Kenya Beech

We recently connected with Kenya Beech and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenya , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose through my relationship with Jesus Christ. I never imagined that going through my struggles with confidence and self-esteem would bring me to my journey of full time entrepreneurship as a licensed Esthetician. Growing up I struggled a lot with how I looked and through various  experiences facing  colorism as a dark skinned black woman and led me to feel I could never measure up or wasn’t beautiful enough. But since I was younger I was always determined to pour into others the affirmation I felt I never got and building up my confidence in who I am. Until I gave my life to Christ I gained a deeper understanding of what it means to truly be who I was created to be because I now have a relationship with God who created me with my skin tone, my height, my personality and made no mistakes when He decided for me to enter into this world. I am still healing from the past of things done and spoken over me but as I am connected to God I am overcoming it all. And I am now able to use my skills of Esthetics and skin care to help women and young girls be confident in their skin and how God created them too.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a licensed Esthetician and have been licensed since 2018. Soon after graduating from Estheticis school, I went on to work at a day spa then a med spa until June of 2020. The pandemic put a huge halt on my career due to the restrictions of masking. Later on in November of 2020 is when I publicly launched my business Unfading Beauty Skin Care via Instagram and on March 17, 2021 is when I officially took my first facial client in my salon suite. I actually just recently celebrated 3 years in business. It has been a very difficult journey with many different challenges that I have had to face but I am proud to say that I made it to 3 years because I did not think I would make it. God has been really faithful throughout my whole journey. My favorite thing about business is connecting with my clients. Through my business I have connected with clients beyond what I expected to and it has been a blessing in my own life. Another amazing thing that has happened is that I was able to obtain a major grant for my business this year that has also helped me tremendously to continue on with my entrepreneurial journey. I am also excited about my growing Glow Club Skin Care Membership where clients are a part of a monthly skin care membership that helps them stay accountable to their skin care goals and allows them to set aside needed time for self care. Most of my clients don’t get a lot of time to pause and rest so I am grateful that my space has become a time of rest for my clients. I am excited to also get serious with promoting my amazing body scrub that clients have raved about. It has a beautiful scent that reminds of Jamaica (I am half Jamaican) and provides a luxurious experience in the shower.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were most impactful for me early on in my journey are patience, integrity and staying in my lane. My advice for anyone who is early on is to be patient about your journey. You don’t want to rush into something because it looks cute on Instagram or you think it will bring in a ton of money quickly. I have had to have a lot of patience in my journey and I’m learning that when it is for me it will be for me. You also want to remain integral in whatever you do. I have been put in situations where I have been asked to lie to a client and I have had to speak up to not lie out of being greedy for money. You always want to be honest with your clients and whoever you work with. Lying won’t get you far and it can turn around and bite you back. It is very important for me to be honest about all my business dealings. And lastly, you have to stay in your lane. It is very tempting to do what others are doing because they look successful but you want to do what you are passionate about because it will bring greater fulfillment. You will get discouraged trying to do what the next person is doing.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
What has been so helpful in my journey is having a business coach/mentor. I have been meeting with my coach for a year now every 2 weeks and it has helped me tremendously to learn more about growing and scaling a business. I do not like the numbers side of entrepreneurship and this is the area in my journey that I am not confident and well educated about but with his help I am making decisions for my business that are helping me grow and expand for the future.
