Meet Kenya Elliott

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kenya Elliott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kenya, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding my purpose was not an easy journey—it was born from trauma, pain, and some of the darkest moments of my life. As a child, I endured unspeakable abuse, which led to a lifelong struggle with food addiction. I used food to cope with the pain, eating myself into oblivion as a way to escape the unresolved trauma. This addiction spiraled out of control, and by the time I was an adult, I weighed 592 pounds and found myself on my deathbed, literally eating myself to death.

At that point, I had been given just 30 days to live. I was so broken and defeated that all I could think was, “As long as I die with a full stomach, I’ll be okay.” I had become medically paralyzed, lying in a hospice bed, fully prepared to die. My only request was to be buried in Kentucky, next to my daughter who had passed away when I was just 13 years old—a child conceived from sexual abuse. I thought this was the end of my story. There was nothing left to fight for, no more hope to cling to.

But then something unexpected happened. In that very hospice bed, I was offered a glimpse of hope. I was presented with the idea that I could regain some energy and that maybe, just maybe, my story wasn’t over yet. At first, I hesitated. I was so convinced that I was going to die that I didn’t see the point. But I took a chance, even if it was small, and started making tiny changes. Slowly, I began eating better and looking at the trauma that had fueled my addiction.

What began as a hesitant step toward healing turned into a full transformation. I shed 468 pounds naturally, without fad diets, and more importantly, I began confronting my trauma. I started to heal emotionally from the abuse, the abandonment, and the overwhelming grief that had shaped so much of my life. In doing so, I found my purpose.

I created I.R.I.S.E., which stands for “I Realize I’m Strong Enough.” This platform became my way of helping others who, like me, had faced trauma, addiction, and the hopelessness of being at rock bottom. My purpose is now clear: to guide others in their journeys of healing, self-discovery, and empowerment. I know what it’s like to feel like there’s no way out, but I also know what it’s like to rise from those ashes.

Through my coaching, my book What If? From Death to Destiny, and the work I do every day, I help others see that even in their darkest moments, they are strong enough to rise. My purpose is to show people that healing is possible and that they can find their own path, just as I did.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Kenya LaShelle Elliott, and my journey through overcoming personal trauma, shedding 468 pounds naturally, and living with a terminal illness has shaped my passion for helping others transform their lives. I’m focused on guiding others to discover the strength within themselves through my coaching platform, www.whatifirise.com and my wellness-centered Athleisure Wear and clothing brand irisebeautique.com

One of the most exciting and transformative aspects of what I do is the 5-Week Transformation Program. This program is at the heart of my coaching, and it’s been a life-changing experience for hundreds of women who have participated. What makes our program unique in the weight loss industry is that it’s not just about shedding pounds—it’s about reclaiming your life, healing from the inside out, and finding the freedom that comes from addressing the underlying emotional and physical issues that keep people stuck.

Through daily coaching, meal plans, and guided self-care practices, women who join the 5-Week Transformation program experience lasting results. They’re not just losing weight—they’re gaining confidence, mobility, and a renewed sense of self-worth. My approach is holistic, focusing on proper nutrition, intermittent fasting, and emotional healing. Many of the women who come to me feel like they’ve tried everything and failed, but my program helps them realize that they’ve always been strong enough to succeed; they just needed the right support and tools.

We are proud to be the only program of our kind in the weight loss industry. While many programs focus solely on diet and exercise, What If I Rise takes a complete, mind-body approach to transformation. We address the root causes of weight gain, such as food addiction, trauma, and emotional struggles, providing not only physical transformation but emotional freedom as well. I’ve had women tell me that this program gave them their lives back, and that is the most rewarding part of my work.

Every day, I get to witness women who were once confined by their weight and emotional pain break free and start living the lives they deserve. The support and accountability we offer through daily coaching are unmatched, and that’s why this program has been so successful. It’s not just about losing weight; it’s about empowering women to truly rise above their limitations.

If you’re ready for a transformation that goes beyond the physical and dives deep into lasting change, I invite you to explore what we offer at www.whatifirise.com. I’m committed to helping women heal, grow, and thrive—just like I did.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey, there are three key qualities and areas of knowledge that have been the most impactful in transforming my life: resilience, self-awareness, and holistic health knowledge. These three elements were essential not only in overcoming my physical and emotional challenges but also in shaping the way I help others today.

Resilience
Resilience was the foundation of everything for me. I was faced with overwhelming challenges—being abandoned on my deathbed, living with a terminal illness, and battling childhood trauma. There were countless moments where I felt like giving up, but my ability to keep pushing forward, even when things seemed impossible, is what saved me. Resilience is not something that comes naturally to everyone, but it can be developed over time. My advice for those starting their journey is to embrace every setback as an opportunity for growth. Build mental toughness by reminding yourself of your goals, and when you fall, get back up—every single time. Focus on small wins, and let those victories fuel your momentum.

Self-Awareness
Understanding myself—my triggers, my trauma, and my relationship with food—was a game changer. For so long, I was eating myself into a deeper depression without fully realizing how my unresolved emotional pain was the root cause. Developing self-awareness allowed me to address the emotional and psychological barriers to my healing. If you’re early in your journey, I encourage you to spend time reflecting on your emotions and actions. Journaling and meditation were powerful tools for me in this area. Learning to pause and listen to your inner voice can reveal so much about what’s holding you back and where you need to focus your energy for growth.

Holistic Health Knowledge
The knowledge I gained about holistic health—understanding nutrition, detoxing, and how the body responds to different foods—was essential to my transformation. Before I started this journey, I had no idea how much food was affecting not just my weight but my energy, mood, and overall health. My weight loss was a result of learning how to properly fuel my body rather than restrict it. For anyone starting out, I highly recommend educating yourself about how food impacts your body. Start with small, sustainable changes and gradually build up your knowledge about nutrition, intermittent fasting, and self-care practices that support your overall well-being.

Advice for Those Starting Out:

Embrace your journey: Don’t expect change to happen overnight. It’s a process, and every step, no matter how small, counts.
Focus on healing, not just goals: Often, people start their journey with a single goal, like losing weight or achieving a specific milestone. But the real growth happens when you focus on healing internally—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Seek support: You don’t have to do it alone. Whether through a coach, a support group, or a mentor, having someone to guide you can make all the difference.
These three qualities have been life-changing for me, and I believe that anyone, regardless of where they are starting from, can develop and cultivate them. It’s not about perfection, but about progress and persistence.
