Meet Kenzie Stein

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kenzie Stein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kenzie, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My momma! My mom passed away in 2017 from brain cancer. I want to create a life and a business that I know she would be proud of. Everything I do is for her.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hi! My name is Kenzie and I’m a balloon artist! I started this business just out of pure joy for balloons. Ever since I was little I just loved being around them. When covid hit in 2020 I also happened to graduate college that year and didnt have many options for work due to the covid restrictions at the time. I wanted to go into sports media but sports weren’t exactly happening at the time haha. So to make ends meet I got a retail job at Party City. It brought me a lot of joy being about to inflate balloons daily for different occasions for different people. I soon took that love of balloons outside of party city and began making creations for my friends and family. I would then go back to work and show my coworkers what I created. They encouraged me to keep at it and maybe even charge people for my services. In April of 2022 when I finally gained the courage I started an instagram to document my creations and then it kind of just took off from there!

I strongly believe that social media and making connections within your community can help any business flourish.

My favorite part of what I do is being able to create for so many different occasions! I love celebrating no matter what the occasion, so being able to do that as a job is a dream come true!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Make connections! My business would not be where it is today if I didn’t put myself out there in my community.

Don’t care about what others think. When I first started my instagram I was embarrassed at what others would think because many looked at it as a “hobby” at the time. But once I grew out of that I really saw a change in not only the growth of my business but also my mindset.

Forgive yourself. Being a small business owner can be extremely stressful. All of the pressure is always on yourself and no one else. You have to learn that you’re going to make mistakes and that is how you will grow.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

I get overwhelmed very often. The majority of the time I do it to myself. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful support system not only for myself but also for the growth of my business. I typically confined in my boyfriend or sister so that I am not keeping all my stress bottled up. I also am a strong believer in NAPS. If I get overwhelmed (and I have time) I will just lay down and close my eyes.
