We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keon (Kesli) Nahali a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keon (Kesli), thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I would have to say my optimism comes from my family. I am blessed to have such an incredible family that always told me that no matter what I am going to go for in my life, whether that’s personal, spiritual, or career-wise to always just give it my all and I could achieve those things. I still hold that belief very near and dear to me to this day as I truly do believe anyone can reach whatever they are looking for in life. We just have to push ourselves.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Currently, to start 2024 it’s been incredible. It hasn’t been an easy climb but I love music and the grind of it more than anything and that passion has helped push me each step of the way in my career. With that being said I have been lucky to start the year by working with some of my favorite artists and have met some of the most incredible people to have ever come into my life. I plan this year to push my boundaries further than I have before and to push my name and career to further points while at the same time trying to give back as much as I can to other creatives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. I would have to say the most important thing first is you have to learn to drop any ego. You have to be understanding and open-minded when working in a creative field. You always want to be that person that people can call on when they need great work done, but also a great human being.
2. Being disciplined in your work can take you so much further than you can think. If you respect the craft, It will respect you back and you show that respect by being disciplined and showing up.
3. Don’t forget to love what you do! I know we have all heard it a million times but it is so true, Life really does go by so fast and I feel I would be cheating myself of life if I didn’t do what I love to do every day.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Two of my favorite books I have ever read are The Power Of Now & The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck. The power of now really gives you a perspective on life that is so simple but we always forget in our busy minds. That lesson is there is no other moment in every second of your day except that you only have that exact present moment. We don’t have the past and we don’t have the future, only the present moment. The subtle art of not giving a f*ck gives the hard truth which is that we are all gonna die one day and us caring what others think of us means nothing and us not doing what we want in our lives is robbing you of life.
