Meet Kerri Herlihy

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kerri Herlihy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kerri, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I think with the love and support I had growing up, and always trying to surround myself with positive, motivated individuals into my adult years has played a huge factor. I try to challenge myself and set goals for myself.
My amazing clients and fellow wedding vendors have always shown me so much encouragement and support which has definitely helped with my self-esteem and confidence! Also just trusting in my experience and expertise as a seasoned artist. I am heading into my 28th year in the business. The best advise I got, was that only you bring your perspective and skills to the table, trust in your uniqueness and be yourself.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been a professional makeup artist in the New England area for the past 27 years. For the past 15 years I have primarily done weddings, and corporate work. In my earlier years I was focused more on the fashion/editorial side of makeup. Lots of photo shoots and runway work.

Weddings are definitely where I am the happiest, at this stage in my career. It’s just so great being a part of such a special day in a brides life. I also really love the vendors I have worked with over the years. There is a really awesome community in Boston that I have truly connected with.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Number 1 is definitely communication. Truly knowing what my clients vision is so important to me. Listening to them, and being able to give them my feedback is key.

Secondly, making sure I keep educating myself on new techniques, products
and makeup lines. It’s important to me that I not only do a good job on my clients makeup, but am able to recommend great products to them for beyond out time together.

Lastly, follow up! In any business it’s always good to follow up with clients to make sure they were happy with their experience with you. A lot of my clients have become life long friends, and I feel like doing so played a big roll in that.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I have incredibly supportive parents. I truly would not be where I am today without them. I knew early on that I wanted to pursue makeup full-time, and they never questioned me. It was definitely tough in the beginning, and I had to work multiple jobs. To this day they are my biggest supporters and I am so incredibly thankful for them.
