Meet Kerry Elise

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kerry Elise a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kerry, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Growing up I didn’t have much self-esteem. I spent years as a people pleaser just trying to be liked. I would do things for people out of fear that they wouldn’t like me if I didn’t. I kept that mindset not only with friendships, but family as well.

I soon became aware that keeping everyone else happy had left me feeling empty. Through doing what everyone else wanted and expected of me I lost my sense of self. It was through my journey to find myself that I gained confidence. I began letting my intuition lead and was able to set boundaries with the people around me. I found hobbies and relationships that aligned with me.

Journaling and affirmation have played a big part in my journey. Writing down the thoughts that scared me the most allowed me a safe space to work through them. Doing daily affirmations telling myself I was worthy felt silly at first, but overall made a difference. For years,I fed myself negative self talk so I had to counteract those with positive energy. Like everyone, I don’t feel confident all the time. The journey is not always linear, however I remind myself I’m stronger than a weak moment.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am fortunate enough to co-own a metaphysical space called Equinox Provisions. I offer services as a spiritual life coach, herbalist and reiki practitioner. At Equinox Provisions we have a retail space offering spiritual items, consciously sourced crystals, herbs and more. We also have classes for the community in an array of interests, including herbalism, tarot and reiki.

Spiritual life coaching offers a range of benefits that go beyond traditional life coaching, as it integrates deeper spiritual awareness and personal growth. Most of us have past traumas, emotional blockages, and limiting beliefs that we must work through. This can lead to personal breakthroughs and a more fulfilled life. I try and guide clients to deeper self-reflection, allowing them to understand their true purpose, values, and motivations on a soul level. Through teaching them mindfulness, meditation, and breathing techniques we also work together on reducing stress and promoting well- being.

I teach community classes in herbalism and self love which has been incredibly fulfilling. I also have a line of herbal products that will be available in our store and online. I currently working on a custom wellness journal that is set for production next year. My business partner, Taylor Anne, and I hope to have our Podcast, The Liminal Lair, out later this year. I feel truly blessed to get to help others build skills to be their highest selves!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities that have been impactful in my life are knowing who I am, wanting to help others and giving others the benefit of the doubt. Once I knew who I was it was easy to manifest the life I wanted for myself. I was able to attract the people I wanted around me. It’s also easier to set boundaries with people when you set a code of ethics for yourself. I knew what I couldn’t allow to disrupt my peace and steered away for those things.

Growing up I always thought I would work in the health profession because I wanted to find a way to help others. I later went into a completely different field, but was always the friend to try and help people work out their personal issues. I’ve always said I’m everyone’s biggest cheerleader. That’s how coaching found me. I have been through my share of hardships and wanted to help others through theirs. Coaching is a peer to peer way to help people get to where they want to be.

It’s easy to be negative and see the worst in life , but then you start to constantly look through that lens. That’s where it helps to give people the benefit of the doubt. Making assumptions and taking things personally only hurts people in the long run. As humans, we sometimes let our minds go wild thinking about every possible outcome in every situation. Making those assumptions usually just leads to anxiety.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I think it’s much more important to focus on your strengths than be well rounded. I’d personally rather be an expert in one thing than a master of none by trying to be good at everything. Often through focusing on our strengths we open doors to more opportunities through higher self-esteem. Growing up I focused so much on the school subjects I was “bad” at that I couldn’t see all the areas where I was excelling.

Once I started to focus on my strengths, I was able to blossom. It felt more possible to tackle harder tasks or things I had seen as obstacles because I had the confidence to do so. Of course I believe it’s important to give everything a fair chance, but often our strengths are because they’re based in passion. Putting time and effort into things you’re passionate about is how you find fulfillment in life.
