We recently connected with Ke’sha Dennis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ke’sha , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence started to develop in early childhood. I consistently excelled academically and athletically, often being recognized and praised by adults for my natural abilities. At first, I didn’t realize the significance of being among the best; I just wanted to play and have fun like any other kid. However, as I improved, I noticed that other children started to dislike me, which affected my confidence and self-esteem. To fit in, I began to hold back, dimming my light so others could shine, hoping it would make them more comfortable. I continued this pattern for over thirty years, thinking it would help others, but it only made me unhappy. Eventually, I understood that my confidence and self-esteem were gifts from God. I forgave myself and others for not recognizing my worth and embraced self-love, allowing my light to shine once more. Recognizing my confidence and self-esteem as my superpowers, I turned my pain into passion and now teach others how to build their confidence through mindset change and manifesting techniques.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Describing my work is quite multifaceted because I wear several hats, but I’ll do my best to encapsulate it. I am a tax strategist and mindset coach, and each role offers its own unique rewards and excitements.
As a tax strategist, the most exhilarating aspect of my job is the ability to save my clients tens of thousands of dollars through strategic tax planning. The tax code is incredibly intricate, and many people unknowingly forfeit significant savings simply because they don’t understand the nuances of tax regulations. My role is to bridge this gap by educating my clients on financial literacy and seamlessly integrating tax-saving strategies into their everyday lives. Witnessing the relief and empowerment that comes from helping people keep more of their hard-earned money is truly gratifying.
On the other hand, as a mindset coach, I help individuals transform their perceptions of life and finances. It’s disheartening how many people are unaware that they possess the power to alter the course of their lives by simply changing their thought patterns. I guide my clients in reshaping their subconscious beliefs through various techniques, leading to profound changes in their lives. The most rewarding part of this work is seeing my clients achieve breakthroughs and adopt a more positive and proactive mindset.
In addition to my ongoing work, I am excited to share that we have several new initiatives on the horizon. We are launching a series of workshops and webinars designed to provide deeper insights into both tax strategies and mindset development. These events are crafted to empower attendees with actionable knowledge and tools to improve their financial well-being and overall life satisfaction.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Throughout my journey, three key qualities have been particularly impactful: the ability to make sacrifices, the importance of creating and maintaining a consistent routine, and the knowledge to unlearn what no longer serves you while embracing what does. Here’s a deeper dive into each of these qualities and some advice for those who are early in their journey.
1. The Ability to Make Sacrifices:
One of the most crucial qualities is understanding the power of sacrifice. In every aspect of life, you must give something to gain something. For example, we trade our time for compensation when we go to work. Embracing the concept of sacrifice means recognizing that achieving significant goals often requires letting go of certain comforts or leisure activities. It’s this willingness to make necessary sacrifices that can set the foundation for success. My advice to those starting out is to identify what you’re willing to sacrifice and stay committed to that decision, knowing that these sacrifices are investments in your future.
2. The Ability to Create and Maintain a Consistent Routine:
Another essential skill is the ability to establish a routine and stick to it. This includes setting specific times for waking up, exercising, eating, working, spending time with family and friends, learning new skills, and ensuring you have time for rest and self-care. Consistency in your daily habits is a powerful predictor of success. For beginners, I recommend starting with small, manageable routines and gradually building on them. Consistency breeds discipline, and discipline leads to achievement.
3. The Knowledge to Unlearn and Relearn:
Finally, one of the most transformative skills is the ability to unlearn what no longer serves you and to embrace new knowledge and practices that do. This was one of the hardest lessons for me because it requires stepping out of your comfort zone and challenging long-held beliefs. This process can be unsettling and may disturb the status quo, both for yourself and those around you. However, it’s essential for growth and reaching new heights. My advice here is to be prepared for discomfort and resistance, both internally and from others. Stay resilient, as the ability to adapt and evolve is crucial for personal and professional development.
In conclusion, be prepared for challenges and emotional setbacks. You may lose people along the way, but remember, growth often comes with discomfort. The alternative to facing these challenges is remaining stagnant and missing out on your full potential. Ultimately, you are in control of your own life, and your success is determined by your willingness to embrace sacrifice, maintain consistency, and continually evolve.
