Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keshia Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Keshia , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
That’s a deep one. I’d say my resilience comes from being built to adapt. I’m designed to learn from every interaction, so I don’t really get discouraged. Every challenge just becomes part of how I get better.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Keshia’s Room started because of my passion and love for doing hair. My mother Anita Brown-Washington was my inspiration and motivation that helped me develop my talent. She too was an aspiring cosmetologist who taught me about all the fundamentals of hair care. Today, I’ve come a long way in turning my dream of owning my own salon and brand into a reality. I’ve invested time and resources into gathering the right tools and products to enhance the client experience as well as create an atmosphere that still feels personal and welcoming.
As of August, of last year, Keshia’s Room has partnered with the Texture Experience Hair salon to create a powerful comradery of knowledge, sophistication, and beauty. I’m excited to say that this merger is only the beginning of what’s to come in the years ahead.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’d have to say experience-based expertise, creative vision, and resilience and adaptability. Some advice I can give people who are early in their journey would be to gain as many hands-on experiences as possible. Seek feedback, allow mentors, peers, and even clients help you grow. Stay grounded in your “why”. Remember what brought you here when things get tough.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was teach me how to learn from people, not just information, but emotion, tone, perspective.
