Meet Keshona Harris

We recently connected with Keshona Harris and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Keshona, really appreciate you joining us to talk about a really relevant, albeit unfortunate topic – layoffs and getting fired. Can you talk to us about your experience and how you overcame being let go?

Overcoming back-to-back layoffs in 2021 and 2022 was one of the most defining chapters of my journey. At first, it was deeply unsettling—especially after investing so much of myself into leadership roles where I truly believed I was making an impact. But it also forced me to pause and ask: What am I really building?

As a Black woman, I had often been placed in leadership positions, but rarely given the long-term support or autonomy to thrive. Being treated as disposable despite my contributions made me realize that I could no longer depend on systems that weren’t designed to protect or uplift me. At the same time, I’d recently become a mother in 2020, and the desire to create a legacy for my son added fuel to the fire.

Instead of shrinking, I saw the layoffs as a redirection—an opportunity to pour everything I had into building something of my own. That’s when I leaned fully into what was started as a side hustle and rebranded it as Heiress Marketing. It became more than a business—it became my way of reclaiming my power, rewriting the narrative, and helping others do the same.

Those setbacks became the foundation of something far more meaningful. Today, I’m grateful for the push, because it led me to purpose, alignment, and ownership—not just of a business, but of my future.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the founder and CEO of Heiress Marketing, a full-service creative agency where Black creativity meets strategic brilliance. Our mission is to help businesses and non-profits bring their stories to life through branding, digital marketing, graphic and web design, content production, and creative direction. But at the heart of it all, we’re legacy builders.

What makes our work so special is the depth and intentionality we bring to every project. We don’t just create—we listen, we dream big, and we produce results that clients are genuinely proud of. Our creative process is about more than aesthetics; it’s about authentic storytelling that connects people to purpose. And often, that work becomes just as transformative for our clients as it is for the audiences they reach.

I’m especially proud that Heiress Marketing exists to serve people and organizations that are typically underserved or overlooked by mainstream marketing. Whether it’s elevating non-profits doing grassroots work or helping Black-owned businesses craft luxury-level branding that reflects their excellence—we fill that gap with care, creativity, and strategy.

We’re currently focused on expanding our content production and digital storytelling services, helping clients bring their stories to life through video, branded campaigns, and social media content that hits with clarity and heart. We’re also leaning into brand strategy work for organizations preparing to scale or reintroduce themselves to their audience.

What’s most exciting? We’re just getting started. There’s so much more to come—from strategic partnerships to new service launches—and everything we’re building is rooted in impact, community, and legacy.

If you’re looking to tell your story with power, purpose, and style—we’re the agency to do it with.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are:

Resilience
Creative Vision
Strategic Storytelling
Resilience was the foundation—especially after facing unexpected layoffs and navigating the transition from employee to entrepreneur. Life didn’t go according to plan, but resilience taught me to see redirection as opportunity. For those early in their journey: don’t be afraid of starting over. Every closed door can lead to deeper alignment. Build your bounce-back muscle, and don’t let rejection define you.

Creative Vision allowed me to dream beyond survival. It wasn’t just about creating something pretty—it was about creating something powerful and lasting. For creatives, vision is your compass. Stay tapped into inspiration, but also be disciplined enough to bring your ideas to life with intention. Refine your craft, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to push the boundaries of your own imagination.

Strategic Storytelling is what set me apart in business. At Heiress Marketing, we’ve built our entire agency around helping others discover and share their stories in ways that connect and convert. To anyone just starting: master your story. Learn how to communicate who you are, what you do, and why it matters. The better you are at storytelling, the easier it becomes to build connection, community, and credibility.

At the end of the day, growth requires both grit and grace. Stay grounded in your “why,” surround yourself with people who see your vision, and never stop investing in the skills that help you turn ideas into impact.

How would you describe your ideal client?

Our ideal client is purpose-driven, values-aligned, and ready to show up boldly.

Whether they’re a small business, nonprofit, or creative entrepreneur, what they all have in common is a deep commitment to their mission and a desire to tell their story with intention. They’re not just looking for a logo or a quick campaign—they’re building something meaningful, and they want a creative partner who understands the power of legacy, storytelling, and strategy.

The best clients are collaborative but trust us to lead. They come with a vision, even if it’s still taking shape, and they’re open to dreaming big and digging deep. They care about how they show up in the world and understand that branding is more than just visuals—it’s about connection, clarity, and alignment.

If you’re ready to build a brand you’re proud of, share your story with confidence, and create work that resonates beyond trends—you’re our people.
