We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keshyra Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keshyra below.
Keshyra , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome can really sneak up on you, especially as a Black, first-generation college student and entrepreneur. I remember walking into rooms where I was one of the few people who looked like me, feeling like I didn’t quite belong.
To tackle those feelings, I leaned into my unique journey. As someone who’s paving my own path, I’ve realized that my perspective as a first-gen student adds real value. I sought out mentors who understood my experiences—people who had faced similar challenges. Hearing their stories of self-doubt made me feel less alone and more empowered.
Starting my own business while pursuing my degree has also taught me to celebrate every win, no matter how small. Each step forward reminds me that I’ve worked hard to be here and that my voice matters. Now, I embrace my identity and experiences as a source of strength, knowing that I bring something special to the table!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m really excited to share how spirituality and faith play a crucial role in my life and how I maintain balance. As a tea lover, I find that drinking tea daily is not just a ritual for me; it’s a healing practice that helps me reconnect with the world and its powerful energy. Each cup feels like a moment of grounding, allowing me to pause and reflect.
I’m particularly thrilled about my new tea collection, Spirituality Plug. This collection isn’t just about trying new teas; it’s about enhancing well-being. Each tea is selected for its unique properties, whether you’re looking for a calming tonic, a restful blend, or an energy booster. I love being able to offer guidance on which teas can support different intentions, helping others find what they need in their own journeys.
Through Spirituality Plug, I aim to create a community where people can explore the healing powers of tea while deepening their connection to themselves and their spirituality. It’s about more than just beverages; it’s about fostering a mindful experience that enriches everyday life. I’m excited for what’s to come and can’t wait to share this journey with others!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I look back on my journey, three qualities really stand out: resilience, empathy, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Resilience has been a pivotal quality in my journey. Being adopted at four, I had to adapt quickly to new environments and challenges. I remember starting school without really knowing how to fit in or navigate those early experiences. There were moments when it felt overwhelming hearing people talk about their parents, especially when mine weren’t present, but each time I pushed through, I discovered more about my own strength. It’s like building a muscle—you don’t realize how strong you are until you face a challenge.
Empathy is another quality I hold dear. Because I didn’t always have a support system that understood my struggles, I developed a deep sense of compassion for others going through tough times. Whether it’s a friend sharing their challenges or clients feeling lost in the behavioral therapy process, I strive to create a safe space where people feel heard and valued. It’s rewarding to connect with others on that level.
And then there’s my commitment to lifelong learning. I’m constantly curious—whether I’m diving into research for my Ph.D. or exploring new creative outlets like acting, singing, or poetry. For example, I recently took an acting workshop that pushed me out of my comfort zone, and it was such an eye-opener. I also love trying new tea blends and reading about their benefits, which always inspires me to learn more about holistic wellness. That desire to learn keeps my mind fresh and ready for whatever comes next.
For anyone just starting their journey, my advice would be to lean into your resilience. Life will throw challenges your way, but each one is an opportunity for growth. Cultivate empathy by listening to others; you never know what someone else is going through. And keep that curiosity alive—embracing new experiences will enrich your life in ways you can’t even imagine. Enjoy the ride; every step is part of your unique story!
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
In the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to say no. With a busy plate, it’s crucial to be intentional about where I invest my energy—where I choose to “water” my commitments. If I spread myself too thin, my cup becomes empty, and I can’t serve others effectively.
I’m in a season of choosing growth, focusing on gaining the wisdom, discernment, and knowledge I need to help more people find their calling alongside me. I’ve become more selective about my commitments and the company I keep, surrounding myself with positivity and like-minded people who share similar values. Saying no has opened up space for me to focus on what truly matters, and I feel more empowered in my journey as a result.
