Meet Ketrice Mitchell-Page

We recently connected with Ketrice Mitchell-Page and have shared our conversation below.

Ketrice, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

When I think of resilience, I think of the ability to withstand, adapt, and overcome. Life has a way of shaping resilience in us—through our experiences, the people we meet, and the challenges we face, whether we choose them or they choose us. For me, resilience is deeply tied to survival and the will to create meaning even in the darkest times.

I lost my mother to breast cancer at 14. That was the moment everything changed. My world felt like it was swallowed whole, and I was left in a haze of suppressed grief. At the time, I accepted it as “just how life is”—people we love die, life is hard, and joy seemed like a luxury, not a reality. After my mother passed, my sister and I lived with our loving grandparents, but the girl I was learning to love disappeared. What remained was a shell operating on autopilot. During my first year of college, I experienced another crushing loss when my grandfather passed away, followed by my grandmother just a month later.

I share these moments not only because they shaped me, but because they revealed the urgent need to actively heal from those wounds. For much of my youth and early adulthood, I pushed through without acknowledging the weight of these losses. That suppression dug a deeper emotional hole, one I tried to fill externally—seeking light in places that couldn’t address the internal work I needed to do.

This realization led to the creation of Illuminated Noir. It was born from my understanding that I needed to face the darkness rather than suppress it. The darkness doesn’t vanish when ignored; it grows. But by sitting with it, exploring it, and learning from it, I began to see how the balance of light and shadow could shape me. Light cannot truly be appreciated or explained without acknowledging the dark. In that space of chiaroscuro—the meeting of light and shadow—I began to find my way forward.

Pushing through those challenges wasn’t easy, but each step symbolized something greater. Earning my degree in marketing was one such step, proof that I could move forward even when my spirit felt broken. That degree, and the certifications I’ve earned since, mean so much to me. In a world where knowledge is often dismissed as “accessible anywhere,” I’ve realized how important formal, structured learning is for me. It’s how I operate best. It brings me joy to hold something tangible that represents the time and effort I invested in myself. For no one else but me, those achievements are a reminder of my resilience. And now, it’s my goal to make all that effort worthwhile this time not only for myself, but for my family and the clients that I serve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am the founder of KMPulse Marketing, a purpose-driven content and marketing agency grounded in strategy and communications. My goal is to help brands that prioritize connection, well-being, and positive impact—focusing on wellness, beauty, justice-driven, and family-focused spaces. My work includes crafting brand stories and marketing campaigns that resonate with audiences. I also develop internal communication strategies that strengthen organizational culture and alignment.

My passion for this work is deeply personal. As a Black mother, I have home-birthed with my family, midwives (CHOICES), and a doula (Kimathi Coleman) and breastfed all my children. I now serve on the board of BSTARS. I have witnessed firsthand the importance of supporting Black maternal health, breastfeeding advocacy, and family-centered care.
These experiences opened my eyes to the disparities in wellness and justice within our communities and shaped my commitment to empowering brands that align with these values. Family, beauty, justice, and community support are at the core of who I am and the work I will do.

While KMPulse Marketing is a new venture, it is grounded in both experience and professional growth. Earning certifications in Brand Identity, Branding, and Digital Marketing & E-commerce has allowed me to combine modern strategies with my lived understanding of the needs within my niche. By blending these skills with my values, I aim to help businesses connect with their audience in authentic and meaningful ways.

Alongside my marketing work, I nurture Illuminated Noire, a space that reflects my love for storytelling and healing. Through themes of love, transformation, and self-discovery, I share personal stories and invite others to reflect and grow.

Balancing entrepreneurship, motherhood, homeschooling, and supporting my husband’s work with Page Life Solutions (Life Insurance) has taught me purpose. I am learning to approach every challenge with intention, creativity, and faith that everything will unfold as it should.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1.) Honest Reflection and Shadow Work
To truly grow, I had to look inward and acknowledge the parts of myself I wanted to ignore. Shadow work taught me that we cannot honor our strengths without addressing our challenges. It’s not an easy process, but it is transformative. As I often remind myself: For it is in the darkness that we seek light. It is at the chiaroscuro—the meeting of light and shadow—where we begin to understand the balance that shapes us.

2.) Spirituality and Inner Power
My spiritual journey transformed how I perceive power and connection. I stopped looking outside myself for strength and began to recognize the divine power that has always been within me. This shift gave me confidence and clarity, allowing me to navigate life with grace. Gratitude plays a central role in this process—I practice daily appreciation for life, for the opportunities I’ve been given, and for the people who love me without reservation or conditions.

3.) Tenacity and Courage
Life has taught me to keep going, no matter the challenges. Tenacity means embracing rest when needed and trusting that rest is part of resetting. Courage means having faith in my ability to grow, even when the odds seem stacked against me. Pursuing dreams at any stage of life is a testament to the beauty of living—it’s never too late to grow, to heal, and to succeed.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Those same people I previously mentioned have been instrumental in my journey. My loving husband has been my rock, providing me with the opportunity to ground myself in a healing space. He believes in me and encourages me to follow my heart’s desires. As a dedicated provider and father, he takes his role very seriously and has worked tirelessly to ensure I had the space to reflect and heal.

I am deeply grateful for the people who have supported me through every season of my life—those who loved me unconditionally and those who grew to love me over time. Their presence in my life is a constant reminder of the strength in connection and community.

I also want to acknowledge the professionals and businesses who trusted me and my work from the start: Page Life Solutions, Kimathi Coleman Perinatal Services, Mobile Mommy, and C & L Executive Transportation. Each of these relationships have played a role in my growth.

Additionally, I appreciate the listening ear and thoughtful questions from a trusted colleague, the CEO of T Malone Marketing, whose insight and encouragement continue to inspire me.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to my dear friend and doula, Kimathi Coleman, for submitting me for this feature and for believing in my story. This opportunity with Bold Journey Magazine is truly a blessing, and I am humbled to share a glimpse of my journey.
