Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevaun, The Sunflower. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kevaun,, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My mother. From a young age, I have seen my mom do so much for people whether she knew them or not. So I always do my best to have a generous spirit whenever it comes to anyone.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a content creator, editor and cinematographer. I’ve been doing social media for over five years now. I got my start in doing reenactments of characters and TV personalities such as Iyanla Vanzant, Madea, and the crowd favorite, Judge Lauren Lake. I’ve done that for almost two years until I decided to FINALLY doing my own original content.
I also have two podcasts. The first one is called The Sunflower Garden Podcast. This is where I like to motivate people to do better with their lives (and mine as well). We just started Season 3 in April! And my second podcast is entitled The Liberation of Black Music Podcast. This is where I discuss Black artists who don’t get enough credit for their contributions to the music industry, games with my friends like This or That; and interviewing upcoming Black artists, musicians and producers! After a long hiatus from the show, I finally came back and have two new episodes for the people to listen to!
In my spare time, I like to do music. I did an EP in September of 2023 entitled Live Laugh Sunflowers and I am working on my FIRST album ever! I cannot wait for everyone to tune in!
And early this year, I did my first short film entitled Who’s Gonna Ask Mom? It stars, me, my sister Kemeiah and my mother. And my family did an amazing job being production crew and a special shoutout to our cinematographer and assistant director, I’yana Awls! It’s available on YouTube!
The Kevaun, the Sunflower brand is important to me because it’s all about spreading peace, tranquility and positivity- all things that a sunflower represent. I want to be a safe and healthy space for upcoming creatives and be an inspiration to all.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would have to say that the three qualities most impactful to me is kindness, creativity, and empathy. And those were all instilled by my mother who inspires me so much to do good in the world. My advice to the beautiful sunflowers out there is to never stop learning about yourself. And if you notice that you lack one, two or all of these things; just keep working on yourself.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Well yes! I am always down to partner with organizations that gives back to the community and collaborate with actors, musicians, singers, basically anyone. I also love to give opportunities to people who want to get in their desired field to give them a chance and work on something.
