Meet Kevin Carrington

We were lucky to catch up with Kevin Carrington recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I derived my work ethic from a combination of my parents, my uncle, and quite honestly myself. While I believe environment and influences play a big role in shaping us, nothing is more impactful than an individuals decision to do and/or be better.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a distinguished healthcare executive, accomplished entrepreneur, and fervent S.T.E.M. advocate. With a passion for innovation and a commitment to advancing healthcare, I’ve built a meaningful career marked by leadership and ingenuity. As a seasoned executive, I have spearheaded numerous initiatives to improve patient care, streamline processes, and drive organizational growth. My entrepreneurial spirit led me to establish successful business ventures like Carrington, a professional accessories brand and Calipso.AI, an artificial intelligence data privacy tool set to release later this year. Beyond my professional endeavors I’m a dedicated advocate for S.T.E.M. education. I founded The C3 Initiative, Inc., a nonprofit organization in which I work tirelessly to unlock the S.T.E.A.M. potential in the minds of black and brown youth in 7th through 12th grade. It energizes me to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators. With a steadfast dedication to excellence and a vision for a healthier, more equitable future, I continue to make a lasting impact in the realms of healthcare, entrepreneurship, and S.T.E.A.M. education.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Authenticity, Kindness, and Determination. These three qualities capture what I believe are the trifecta of accomplishment. My advice to anyone bold enough to set out on a journey of doing something meaningful is to be your authentic self, be kind when working with others, and finally be determined, or as my dad used to put it, “say to every task before you start—there’s always a way”.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
God has blessed me to be surrounded by people who are either on similar journeys to mine or have already traveled the roads that I’m traveling. It’s really heard to pick just one because I truly feel that through my seasons of live I’ve always had someone to provide guidance and help me grow. But if I had to pick, it would be my dad, Mark Carrington. I had the opportunity to watch him grow his business from scratch, be a reliable father to four kids and a loving husband to my mother. He was both my hardest critic and my biggest hype man all rolled into one. When he passed away, a week after I graduated college, I determined to build on his legacy by creating my own.
