We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kevin Mclemore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When I was in the third grade, my teacher asked how I wanted to be remembered? At 8 or 9 years old, I said, I wanted people to say I made and difference in their lives, I wanted to create H.O.P.E helping other people everyday.
Hope became my one word, the reason I do what I do today. My mission was to use the power of Stories, to uplift, inspire, share life experiences and perspectives, using the framework of teaching, learning and modeling.
It wasn’t until I started my podcast Talking Wit Kevin and Son, did I realize the power of words. Being true to what I do and understanding the value of what one person can do, when they are connected to likeminded people.
My grandfather told me, when you get to the place that you can help someone else, that it was your duty to help someone. He said Reach on-Teach one, this is my reason, my purpose.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As of my most recent speech, I was introduced as the Mindset Messager, which I prefer over the title Motivation Speaker. Today, my energy is being directed to create strong relationships, putting people together that want to create change and get things done.
I believe that collaboration is King and queen, that no one can do this thing we call life alone. Right now, I am showcasing people on my podcast that are open to sharing their secrets to their success and their stories that would never get told. The Stories are from people like you and I that changing lives.
Through my faith God has directed me to someone wonder people, and there is not a day that goes by where my show is not referred to someone with a gift wanting to be on my show. However, there is always the one guest, the one story that defined what you are truly put on this earth to do, and mind story is now attached to Kier “Junior” Stapes co-host to the Steve Harvey morning show, who is living and Thriving with Sickle cell. Today my goal is to be part of the story that eradicates Sickle Cell disease. This is now my “why” and my purpose.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I try not to look back, I am focus on right now; for the purpose of putting something down in words, I would talk about balance, faith and abundance.
(1) I believe that to grow, you have to make mistakes and learn. Life is tough for all of us.
(2) To be confidence, you must address your anxieties. Be truthful with yourself
(3) To move forward, you have to forgive yourself, to be free you must hold yourself accountable for your actions
(4) To learn, you have to unlearn some stuff, history is just that. You only have control over those things you can control.
(5) To exit, you must show as more. You have to be presents, ready-willing and able.
(6) To understand this life, you have to believe, and your actions has to support what you believe. Understand the true power of your words, your words can either build something or destroy something or someone.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Funny you should ask this question, before I would say it would be my book “The indispensable game of X’s and O’s” How I learned everything about life, I learned playing high school football. Although this is one part of my story, the book “The gap and the Gain” by Dan Sullivan.
This book simplifies life and the challenges we all face. It talks about the mindset of high achievers, in simple terms it outlines a mindset to happiness, confidence, and professional and personal success.
One of the most valuable words of wisdom is to become a professional listener.
