Meet Kevin Thomas

We recently connected with Kevin Thomas and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kevin with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

For many years I walked around without me knowing my purpose. I spent years just going with the “flow”. And that never got me anywhere. So it took a life changing event to wake me up and slap some pep in my step. But once that happened it was almost as if I was a new me. I realized we can’t achieve our goals just by going with the flow. We gotta work and work hard at it specially in my career of being a singer/songwriter. So with that being said I’d say I get my work ethic from knowing what it’s like to be at rock bottom and refusing to ever go there again.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Well I’d say I’m one of the lucky ones. I get to do what I love for a living. Getting to travel the United States as a Fulltime Singer/Songwriter and meet new people while getting to sing my songs really for me is the dream come true. Being a songwriter is not the easiest thing to do and if it was not for my love of putting pen to paper and expressing myself through songwriting I’m not sure it be a career I could sustain. Because it is hard. The traveling and the time management it takes to keep a healthy home life is hard. But songwriting is special and getting to make money and live off of your talents alone make it exciting and so worth it. I’ve always said to invest in yourself because you have a less chance of disappointing yourself. And this career path definitely has a lot of slopes that take yah down quick but man is it exciting when you are standing on top of the mountain.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

3 big ones… Work ethic, people skills and being yourself/ being likable. The first one explains itself. Work hard and work smart. Realizing it’s okay to be told No and moving forward is one thing it took me awhile to overcome. But don’t get fixated on it. You’re not everyone’s cup of tea. People skills is just learning how to work with other people. Such as cowriting, speaking to venue owners, working the crowd in front of you. And the most important is be yourself. Play the music you want don’t try to copy anyone. If you do cover songs sing those as if you wrote them. Music is an art form so be creative. And the best advice I can give to newcomers is play as many shows as you can don’t worry about anything your first couple years but networking and filling your schedule with shows. Cut your teeth on some asphalt and build your confidence and find your voice!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Oh of coarse! I’m always looking to collaborate with others. Such as other songwriters, producers, Music Engineers, venue owners the whole works I’ll collaborate! Thats a big part and big reason for my success so far! I can always be reached on social media at Kevin Thomas Official and that’s on every platform!
