Meet Kevin Wang

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kevin Wang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kevin, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

Growing up, my parents instilled in me a profound sense of empathy and generosity. Though we weren’t wealthy, they taught me to always consider those less fortunate and to extend a helping hand whenever possible. By putting ourselves in others’ shoes and offering support, we contribute to making the world a better place. I firmly believe that our kindness will come back to us through the universe, creating a ripple effect of positivity and change.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

For nearly 30 years, I have been immersed in the entertainment industry, journeying from a QA tester to art director at the newly founded Alkaid Studio. My path has led me through IT, animation, previsualization, cinematics, and ultimately, into the realms of motion capture and 3D photogrammetry.

What ignites my passion is the collaborative creation of movies and games. These projects, which take 3-5 years to come to fruition, involve the collective efforts of thousands of talented 2D/3D/VFX artists, animators, engineers, programmers, sound technicians, and more. Together, we nurture these creations like our own children, overcoming obstacles with resilience and ingenuity to ensure timely delivery. The ultimate reward is the profound sense of accomplishment when seeing my name in the credits.

In today’s rapidly evolving industry, marked by budget cuts and layoffs driven by advancing AI technologies, I dedicate myself to learning and integrating AI into my workflow. Embracing AI is essential; by growing alongside it, we ensure that we remain vital contributors rather than being replaced. Adaptation and continuous learning are the keys to thriving in this dynamic landscape.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

People Skills: To excel in people skills, it is crucial to read your surroundings and connections, respond to the vibe and energy with respect, and foster meaningful interactions.

Strong Mindset: Everyone encounters obstacles in life, but resilience and a mindset of never giving up are essential. Setting your intention to shine can transform darkness into light, reminding you that sometimes you can be the guiding light you seek.

Learn and Adapt: Life’s journey is fueled by the pursuit of knowledge and growth. Embrace continuous learning and adaptation to enrich your experiences and stay ahead in your industry. Cultivate curiosity, explore new skills, and never stop expanding your horizons. This passion for learning is one of the greatest gifts life offers.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

I have embraced meditation and manifestation techniques to cultivate a more positive future. Attending Tony Robbins’ “Unleash the Power Within” seminar was particularly transformative, enabling me to introspect deeply and let go of past burdens to make space for positive growth.

Additionally, My loving mother has been my guiding light over my entire life, especially within this past year with some personal struggle, she inspires me to cultivate a joyful and optimistic mindset. She reminds me daily that happiness is a choice, urging me to embrace every day with a smile and strive to become the best version of myself. By empathizing with others, we realize that what hurts us can hurt them, too. Let’s choose to be bucket fillers—spreading kindness and positivity— and work together to transform the world into a brighter, more compassionate place for all.
