Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin Williams Sr.. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kevin , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
By attending a Historically Black College and University (Huston-Tillotson College)
I learned early on about giving back to the HBCU community. I’ve been involved in professional basketball for 13 years. I always had ideas on how I could impact the HBCU community when the opportunity to be apart of the first ever professional basketball league for HBCU athletes came around I knew that would be my passion to create a legacy.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the Co-Founder/President of Basketball Operations of the HBCU Basketball Association.
The HBCU Basketball Association is an professional basketball league featuring athletes from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The vision of the league is to create a super culture of athletes that will be spotlighted and marketed to the NBA G League and NBA through our network and media outlets.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the 3 qualities and skills I have learned through my journey is.
1. How to market and promote an event.
2.How to build strong relationships with staff, players, coaches, sponsors, agents, and most importantly the community.
3. How to help athletes with their pursuit of a professional basketball career.
My advice to all athletes is to put yourself in a great position to been recruited or showcased.
Always understand there is someone looking for the same opportunity as you. So you have to work just as hard as the next person to go where your trying to go.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are looking to network and work with the media outlets in the cities where we have teams. Currently we have teams in Atlanta (HBCU Experience) Birmingham (HBCU Surge)
Houston (HBCU Movement)
New Orleans (HBCU Spirit)
