We were lucky to catch up with Khalid Nazim recently and have shared our conversation below.
Khalid, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Keeping the creativity alive is the most challenging thing to do. I often stumble upon a lot of creative blocks in between the projects. During such times I watch a lot of movies, and series as well as videos from where I get inspired and learn new things that fascinate me. Being a person related to this creative field of filmmaking, I often research new filmmaking techniques and tutorials or simply watch a critical documentary of a film that I have watched currently. I also go for really long walks or ride my bike, it is the most therapeutic thing for me because I get time for myself where I can think, explore, and observe whatever is around me. Another thing I do is to keep a notepad with me where I write my ideas whenever it comes to my mind even if it is a one-liner and this has helped me many times. Recently I have started to collaborate with a lot of people, not only do I get to hear their side of amazing ideas but also share what’s mine and it is so fulfilling this way to work together, and motivates me to create something new. This practice showed me a whole new perspective towards being creative as well. In conclusion, it is not easy to be creative all the time, and being creative is a mental process that can happen instantaneously or take a lot of time. I believe sometimes we just have to wait for the right time and be open to any new ideas or challenges that come our way.

Absolutely! As a filmmaker and a creator, my passion for art has been ingrained in me since childhood. From a young age, I found myself captivated by the magic of cinema, drawn to its ability to transport audiences to different worlds and evoke a myriad of emotions. Growing up as an introvert, I discovered that filmmaking became more than just a hobby; it became my voice, my means of expressing thoughts and feelings that I struggled to convey verbally. Every aspect of filmmaking, from scripting to editing, intrigued me, offering a creative outlet where I could translate my innermost thoughts into visual narratives. Through the lens of a camera, I found liberation, transforming my introversion into a powerful tool for storytelling. Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of directing and editing numerous music videos and films. Along the way, I’ve honed a diverse set of skills essential to the craft, delving into areas such as visual effects, sound design, and cinematography. These skills have not only enriched my own projects but have also allowed me to collaborate effectively with other artists and creators. I have always thrived on the challenge of integrating various elements seamlessly to bring stories to life on screen. Each project presents an opportunity to push boundaries and explore new techniques, further fueling my passion for the art.
Currently, I am fully immersed in bringing my creative visions to fruition through a variety of passion projects. One of my primary endeavors involves crafting my own script for an upcoming film. Concurrently, I am collaborating with a group of like-minded friends on experimental projects, where we will be exploring innovative techniques and pushing the boundaries.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three defining qualities that have shaped my journey are passion, ambition, and curiosity. I have been very passionate about every project I undertake, whether it is big or small. My passion acts as the driving force behind my relentless pursuit of the art. I am also very ambitious regarding my work which often propels me to create something different. Although I tend to get too over-ambitious, I’ve learned the importance of grounding myself in reality and channeling my aspirations into achievable milestones. Curiosity is my guiding light, fueling an insatiable hunger for knowledge and innovation. I embrace each opportunity as a chance to learn and grow, constantly seeking new techniques and perspectives to enrich my craft.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past twelve months, I’ve experienced remarkable growth both personally and professionally. As an introvert, I’ve challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone and embrace social interactions with newfound confidence and ease. This shift has not only enriched my personal connections but has also opened doors to exciting collaborative opportunities within the filmmaking community. Furthermore, I’ve undergone a significant transformation in my approach to projects, transitioning from unrealistic expectations to a more grounded and pragmatic mindset. By setting achievable goals and staying true to my vision, I’ve cultivated a greater sense of fulfillment and success in my creative endeavors. Most importantly, I’ve embarked on a journey of self-discovery and self-love, shedding the need to please others and embracing my authentic self with open arms. Through this process, I’ve found a newfound sense of empowerment and inner peace, allowing me to thrive both personally and professionally.
