Meet Khang & Hien Luong

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Khang & Hien Luong. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Khang & Hien, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Creativity requires constant effort. Without trying, motivation and fresh ideas will fade faster than they appeared. Everyday life can become so mundane amid busy work schedules, dormant side projects, and lack of motivation. Burnout is much too common and often causes us to turn our backs on the creative outlets that bring us the most joy.

It’s for that reason that I’m so thankful to have a likeminded brother who values the importance of new experiences. So many of our adventures and stories go hand in hand with our creative passion for photography and cars.

Photography isn’t something that can be refined by staying in the house all day. It requires you to go out into the world and seek true beauty worthy of capturing. This simple fact of photography has driven us to chase new experiences and live out our wildest dreams.

Immersing ourselves in car culture worldwide, chasing car meets, road tripping across our beautiful country – these are the moments that keep our creativity alive.

-Khang

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Although Hien and I got into photography at different times, our love of cars has stretched far back into our lives.

During the time way before we could even drive or own cameras, we obsessed over cars. Sitting in our study room, we’d watch car compilations and day dream as young children. This love for cars carried on all throughout our lives and further manifested Motor City Mayhem.

First started in 2018, Hien and our cousin Jimmy Huynh had an idea: to create a page on Instagram dedicated to the beauty and power of American muscle cars. The page quickly took off with a combination of Hiens technical car knowledge and Jimmy’s social media prowess.

-Khang

Motor City Mayhem has always been an art collective at the forefront. Combining the love of photography and automotive culture to capture the vast car scene across Southern California and beyond. With so many opportunities, we’d like to keep Motor City Mayhem true to its roots.

For the foreseeable future, both Khang and I plan to attend more car focused events to help show the world what the SoCal car scene is all about.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the ability to step outside the comfort zone, make new connections and passion were the 3 most important factors in trying to make our vision come to life.

You have to love what you do, and you have to be willing to go beyond what is expected to find the content you’re aiming to create.

My biggest piece of advice… if you love it then chase it. Don’t ever settle for less.

-Hien

Photography has required patience, practice, and passion. Like any craft, photography is always a learning process. It’s something you have to do over and over. This will not only help you understand your gear, but more importantly, your vision.

For anyone getting into photography, my advice to you is this:

A life worth living is a life worth capturing. Grab a camera and preserve your world in a way only your eyes can see it.

-Khang

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

We would love to partner and collaborate with anyone that has a similar vision to us. Bringing a niche scene to the masses.

Whether it’s about cars or something entirely different, the love of photography and community is universal.

We have recently taken on landscape and street photography and it’s something that we would love to collaborate with others on!
