We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Khaotickayy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with KhaoticKayy below.
KhaoticKayy, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic honestly came from the pain that I have been through in my life. Music and writing is my therapy. It became a way for me to release everything that I have bottled up inside and it is a way for me to deal with a lot of the trauma that I have been through in life. I grew up in a trap house. I was shot 8 times and flatlined 7 times. That is just a small snippet of what I have been through. I am grateful to still be here to tell my story. I have well over 600 songs written so far and counting. I can’t help but to write and work on my music. It makes me feel alive, so it really doesn’t feel like work.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is KhaoticKayy, and I am from Macon, GA. I am a music lover! I like to describe myself as an Artist, Producer, and Songwriter. Currently, I am focused on my music career. People ask me what type of Artist I am, and what kind of music do I write and perform, and the first thing that comes to mind is SOUL MUSIC. Although I rap and sing , my style is Different. A lot of people tell me that I don’t sound like anybody that’s out right now, but if I had to choose a genre, it would be Hip-Hop/R&B. I love to sing and I love to rap, I have been doing both since I was about 12/13 years old.
What I feel is the most exciting or special about it is that I believe that I will help a lot of people heal their own life pain from my music. Music has helped me to heal, so I know that it will help a lot of other people, especially those who have grown up like me.
I have a new EP coming out soon titled Dissimilar. I came up with that name because I wanted to highlight the fact that I am so different, but I didn’t want to just use the word Different. I want people to be intrigued and want to find out more about me, my music, AND learn a new word. My first single, Same Way, will be released early November. I am looking forward to the world hearing the song. It’s one of my favorite songs on the EP. The song is produced by a talented Producer Malthe Just from Denmark. He’s 18 years old, and I love his style. My lyrics mesh so great with his sound. I feel that I will be working with him for many years to come!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I think that some things that have been most impactful in my journey are never giving up, always trying something new, never stop writing, studying the art of music, and learning how to work effectively in the studio.
Advice I have for folks who are early in their journey is create and write from your heart and soul, be confident and ok with being yourself, get a team or someone around you who you can trust, be resilient and never give up, and when it comes to learning how to work effectively in the studio, always have a plan for what you are going to do and how you are going to execute when you get into the studio. Be focused and ask questions, and most of all, don’t be afraid to “fail”, because that is how you learn to be better.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Right now, I would say that my Management team, Miesha Lynette and Big Unk Entertainment. They have helped me to organize my music, they have introduced me to professionals in the industry that I would not have been able to meet on my own. They have helped me to learn the business of music. You see and hear the term, Music Business, but I don’t think that I really knew or understood the business behind the music. I have a much greater respect for it now. I also have to say that when it comes to knowledge I needed to be successful, not only did my management team do that for me, but I also have to give a huge shoutout to one of my mentors, Makeba Riddick-Woods. She taught me a lot about how to structure my songs properly. Most of my songs came from me freestyling. I would only write and record the songs after somebody would say, “That’s dope, you should record that!”. So, I would write it down, find a beat, and record it, or already have a beat that I felt would fit what I was trying to convey. But Makeba taught me a lot and she was honest with me in the studio. I will be forever grateful to her for those lessons. There were a lot of challenges I had to overcome , but looking back on it, it was the best thing for me in my professional growth.
