We were lucky to catch up with Khari Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Khari, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic I acquire mainly from my mom, I have learned a-lot and grow through a-lot with my mom even as a single parent she is stills gives everything to make sure I am a hard-worker and working smart and to build something for myself. I also accumulate my drive and athletic side from my dad side as well.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a music producer, sound engineer, and entrepreneur who lives and breathes creativity. I run two companies — KillaHrtz Productions LLC, my flagship production brand, and Greekwavs Productions LLC, a collaborative venture focused on high-quality sound production and audio services. My work is rooted in supporting artists and helping them tell their stories through music that feels authentic, powerful, and timeless.
What excites me most is the collaborative process — taking an artist’s vision, building on it sonically, and watching it transform into something that connects with people. Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of talent, from rising local stars to well-known underground artists like Azizi Gibson, Michael Christmas, Saint Tailor, Noa James, Trini, Nuglife, and more. I love blending genres and experimenting with sound so that no two projects feel the same.
Outside the studio, I’m passionate about building a creative ecosystem. I attend music and art events, connect with other musicians, filmmakers, and creatives, and work toward forming a collective where ideas and talents flow freely. My goal is to bridge different creative worlds so we can produce work that not only entertains but also inspires.
As for what’s next — I’m expanding my production catalog, diving deeper into sync licensing opportunities for film and TV, and continuing to work on projects that push the boundaries of sound and storytelling. I’m also exploring more collaborations across industries to keep my work fresh, unexpected, and impactful.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back at my experience on the continuous journey, I’d say the three qualities that shaped my journey the most are adaptability, persistence, and networking.
1. Adaptability – In music, trends, technology, and even the industry itself are always changing. Being able to adjust my sound, workflow, and approach while still keeping my identity as a producer has been key to staying relevant and creative.
Advice: Stay curious. Learn new production tools, explore different genres, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone you’ll grow faster that way.
2. Persistence – The music industry isn’t an overnight success story. It’s a long game, I’ve faced setbacks, dry spells, and projects that didn’t pan out, but persistence kept me pushing forward until the right opportunities came.
Advice: Develop a strong work ethic and a thick skin. The ability to keep going after rejection is what separates those who make it from those who give up.
3. Networking & Relationship Building – So many of my biggest opportunities came from genuine connections, whether it was meeting an artist at a local show or collaborating with another creative on a whim.
My Advice: Go to events, introduce yourself, and be authentic. Focus on building real relationships rather than just collecting contacts. People remember how you made them feel more than what you said.
For anyone starting out, my biggest tip is to balance skill-building with connection-building. Perfecting your craft is important, but so is making sure the right people hear it. These are definitely great tips for new folks in the early stages of there journey.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
A huge part of what shaped me came from my family, especially my mom, my grandparents, and my uncles. They gave me not only the knowledge but also the tools to survive in the real world. They taught me different ways to live life, love it, and follow my dreams with intention.
From my mom, in particular who made a stronger impact in my life, I gained lessons that went far beyond words. She taught me how to cook, how to see things from many different perspectives, and how to embrace uniqueness, both in life and in my craft. Those lessons helped me develop my creativity, stand out in what I do, and approach my journey with resilience and purpose.
