Meet Khia Ancalade

We recently connected with Khia Ancalade and have shared our conversation below.

Khia, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by allowing myself to constantly be inspired, even by the smallest things. Reading, conversations with others, going outside, listening to music, even grocery shopping; all of these things keep me creative. Embracing creativity in simple tasks can bring joy and new perspectives to your daily life and I truly believe that is important to keep nurturing your creativity.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Through my brand Khia’s Canvas, I create digital art that connects creativity, culture, & design. I express my connection to my culture through my art and intend for others to see themselves in the work as well. My work is also available on various products such as posters, mugs, phone cases, tote bags & more. I would like to make a meaningful impact and ignite conversations on the importance of of representation and recognition of Black art, culture, and community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were very important for me and my journey would have to be consistency, authenticity, and confidence; I honestly don’t know how far I would have gotten without those three attributes. My advice for others who are on their own journey is for them to get clear on why the success of their venture is truly important to them. Once they know their “why”, these three qualities will be stronger than ever.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When feeling overwhelmed, I take a break from the source of stress and focus on clearing my mind. I often listen to music, take a walk, workout, or even take a nap. I’ve just learned over time that continuing to stress about an issue, will only make it worse, so I allow myself grace to take a break. 9 times out of 10, I just needed a break, so once that break is over, I feel fully recharged.
