Meet Khloe Cain

We recently connected with Khloe Cain and have shared our conversation below.

Khloe, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I discovered my purpose when I recognized a need in the writing industry. Reading error-filled books often frustrated me. With my strong grasp of grammar, I decided to take online courses, read extensively, and reach out to various authors and publishers.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I have been a book editor for about eleven years. In essence, I am the person behind the scenes correcting errors and ensuring books are ready for publication. Having a keen eye for errors and attention to detail feels like a superpower! Another exciting aspect of my job is the amazing books I get to read while working.

I take great pride in my editing company, Khloe’s Thoughts Editing. My goal is to refine the author’s words while preserving their unique voice. What sets me apart from other editors is my consistency—there are no two sides to me. I am exactly who I am both on and off social media: laid-back yet highly professional.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My journey demanded resilience, patience, and a strong command of English. Resilience is important because I had to understand that not every author would choose me, and hearing “no” wasn’t a rejection—it just meant we weren’t the right fit for each other. Patience was essential, especially as an introvert, because I knew I’d be working with various personalities. A deep knowledge of English was crucial, as an editing business can’t thrive without a solid grasp of fundamentals like subject-verb agreement.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful, yet sometimes annoying, thing my parents did was correct my grammar. They’re the reason behind Khloe’s Thoughts Editing and my love for all things grammar. If they had allowed me to use poor grammar, I’m certain I wouldn’t have developed this passion for editing. To this day, at my grown age, if they hear slang or me using incorrect grammar, they’ll mention it, lol.
