We recently connected with Kia Aird and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kia, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
I’ve developed strong communication skills by pairing them with grace toward others, always remembering I might be the first kind person someone meets that day. Growing up, I struggled with social anxiety but chose not to let it hold me back when I turned 16 and started working in the food industry. That experience helped me learn how to engage with people, understand different personalities, and keep conversations flowing. I later moved into a car dealership role, advancing from cashier to internet sales and then payroll, where I built on those early lessons to create more personal, comfortable, and effective interactions.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Prime Contrast Media was built on the vision of creating meaningful, high-quality content that goes beyond just pictures and videos, it’s about capturing experiences and stories with care. What drives me is the belief that every client deserves a comfortable, genuine environment where their personality and purpose shine through. Seeing the relief in a client’s eyes when they see a photo of them they like warms my heart. Not everyone is a model so it can be a tense interaction. That is where I step in, reassure them, create conversation and keep capturing their best angle!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Learning to be present has taught me to approach both people and photography with patience and attentiveness. In portraits, I experiment with angles and lighting to highlight the side of someone that feels the most authentic, and in concerts, I adapt by moving myself to work with the light that already exists. That practice reminds me that everyone deserves to be seen in their best light, both literally and figuratively. It’s also helped me grow in character, teaching me the value of adaptability, respect, and truly seeing people for who they are. The more I focus on practicality and presence, the more natural it feels to capture honesty in every shot.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents ever did for me was buying me my first camera, a Canon T6i that I still use today. That gift was more than just equipment, it was the spark that lit my passion for photography. It gave me a tool to express myself, explore creativity, and capture moments in ways words couldn’t. Over time, it’s become a reminder of their belief in me and the starting point of a journey that continues to shape who I am.
