We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kia Frazier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience definitely comes from my grandmother, my mother, and life situations. I didn’t have the worst upbringing but it wasn’t the best. Life taught me as a child that things won’t always be easy or comfortable. I watched my mother and grandmother deal with multiple unfair situations yet remain positive and still keep their faith
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a home chef and food influencer. Cooking, creating, and capturing different cuisines are my passions. I like to be able to cultivate recipes that are realistic to make for my food friends or anyone who stumbles across my page. I cook many different cuisines as well as visit many restaurants to share with my followers of all nationalities and cultures. Remaining relatable is important to me as it helps me feel connected to my followers.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In the journey of being a business owner of any kind, the number one rule is to keep going. As cliche as it is, you can’t give up on yourself. Post when you don’t want to, network when you don’t feel like it, be proud whether you have 1 like or 1000 likes. I never imagined myself being an influencer and home chef in Houston but here I am and it’s paying off. Be consistent, be dedicated, and use everyday as a chance to learn more about the field you are operating in. Things can go bad but they can go so good!!!! Trust yourself
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of improvement in the last 12 months has been networking. I’m not the most talkative person and sometimes I am easily intimidated but within the last year I’ve definitely changed that. I have gone to more food events and made more connections with other chefs, business owners, and influencers and I’m so proud. There are so many nice people willing to help you or give you gems of wisdom. Don’t be afraid to network!!!
