Meet Kia Williams

We recently connected with Kia Williams and have shared our conversation below.

Kia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
From ages 18-22 I didn’t know what my passion was or how i would make a change in this world. But I knew I had to try and figure it out. Coming from my background growing up in Spanish Harlem it’s a celebration if you even just graduate from high school. After finishing school I started working. College wasn’t a goal at the time survival was. When I turned 21, I realized I wanted more for myself. Working jobs and just getting fired when they didn’t need me anymore wasn’t a good feeling. So I enrolled in Hostos Community College. While being in college full time my school offered a free CNA program. So I took advantage of the opportunity. Being in school 60 hours a week unfortunately I couldn’t find employment but I was focused on the bigger goal so I made it work .Shortly after finishing the cna program I was working in a nursing home where I came to the realization that being a cna wasn’t my passion. During this journey one thing I always enjoyed and had money for was skincare. After spending two years in college shortly after i enrolled in esthetics school not knowing it would be the start of a pandemic. Luckily i stood among the journey, and 8 months later I graduated and started my new career. Because I took a leap of faith today, I’m a 3 year full time solo esthetician specializing in skincare education and acne. You’ll never know what god has in store for you if you don’t take that leap of faith.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Kia Williams, owner of Naked Skin By Kia located on 138th Street in the Bronx. I’ve been a full time business owner for 3 years. I’m a licensed esthetician specializing in acne and skincare education. I focus on helping clients boost their confidence by providing professional medical grade services. By focusing on skincare education, I help clients achieve long term results that helps prevent recurring skincare insecurities. I work on facial and body acne. What I love the most about my career is seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces after they’ve trusted the process and seen results. Growing up with skincare insecurities and no luck of finding answers. I take pride in breaking that cycle with my clients. In 2024 Naked Skin By Kia is focusing on expansion and reaching more people in person and on social media to help adults and teens with skincare insecurities and boost self esteem.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Since a teen i also had a hustler mentality. I came to the realization at an early age that nothing would be given to me and that I would have to work hard to achieve financial freedom and happiness. I realized if I don’t help myself, no one can help me. Most importantly i always had faith and knew that as long as i had a good plan and god there wasn’t anything that i couldn’t do. My advice to someone in their early journey is to trust the process. I’ve had so many doors close on me. I’ve been in unimaginable situations but I never gave up. If you give up, you’re giving the devil too much energy. Even when something doesn’t work out as planned. Go back to the drawing board and come up with a plan b. You can achieve it if you believe.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with other estheticians and entrepreneurs in the health field. Skincare is only one portion of achieving a better version of ourselves. Diet, habits, exercise, mental health and much more plays a big part in who where are and how we operate and treat others. It all starts from within. Who we are to ourselves sets the tone and energy of our livelihood and or relationships with others.
