We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kiana Lane. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kiana below.
Kiana, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I really like this question! A few years ago I would have said it’s because I’ve been through a lot in life, but I want to reshape the narrative and say that I’ve had a lot of experiences that have forced me to look at the brighter side of every situation I’ve been in & realize that LITERALLY everything happens for a reason and is being aligned to work in my highest good. One of my favorite quotes is “the universe will give you whatever experience necessary for the evolution of your consciousness” and it’s something I live by.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I like to say that I’m a singer first and then a songwriter, Music has been such an integral part of my life dating back to my childhood and it’s narrated every single experience I’ve ever had which is why I’m obsessed with it and so grateful that it exists. Every time I listen to a song by one of my favorite artists it just reminds me that I want to be better at writing songs and translating the same feelings of connection & understanding that I get when I listen to music. I’m focused right now on building my catalog so I have music to drop frequently!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’m not even where I want to be yet but something I heard someone say once early on that stuck with me is just to focus on honing your craft. This is music specific but write your own songs, play your own instruments if you want, create the best beats and really just be better than everyone. You have to be so good that people literally can’t ignore you. If you really want to make anything creative a career, you have to treat it like a full time job! Don’t be afraid to reach out to people who have already been successful in what you’re wanting to do. My advice? Don’t reinvent the wheel.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Honestly, if I have to cry I do that. Or taking a little nap helps. I always try to bring myself back to a positive space. I’ll say a little prayer and recite some affirmations and most of the time that helps. I think having a solid to do list is key and really prioritizing what you ACTUALLY need to get done and what can wait.
