Meet Kiandra Jefferson

We were lucky to catch up with Kiandra Jefferson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kiandra, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My journey as a business owner in the hair care industry was a testament to resilience, born from a deep connection to my roots, my love for hair, and an unwavering commitment to my community. My fascination with hair care began in my childhood. I would sit on the porch at my grandmother’s house, surrounded by the rich scents of herbs and oils, as the women in my family shared stories while they braided, twisted, and styled each other’s hair. These moments were more than just grooming; they were rituals of love, history, and cultural identity.

As I grew older, my passion for hair care blossomed into a dream. I knew I wanted to create products that celebrated the unique beauty and versatility of African American hair while also uplifting my community. With determination burning in my heart, I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey early 2017. However, the road was not easy. I faced the same challenges that many entrepreneurs do: securing funding, navigating a competitive market, and enduring setbacks that threatened to derail my dreams. But what set me apart was my resilience, a quality deeply rooted in my bloodline. Throughout each challenge, I never gave up no matter what or who I was up against!

My commitment to her craft and to my community never wavered. I’ve invested countless hours perfecting my formulations to create products that met the unique needs of African American hair and to my surprise my products didn’t only work for our hair but those of other ethnicities as well! Word quickly spread and my brand gained a loyal following.

As my business grew, I saw an opportunity to help other aspiring beauty entrepreneurs around the world. So I decided to expand my operations to manufacture products for other brand owners, providing them with the same level of care and dedication I put into her own line. This decision not only boosted my business but also became a source of empowerment for many in my community, offering a chance for others to realize their entrepreneurial dreams as well. I am able to help those that come after me not make the same mistakes I made and help them get over hurdles that they face being that I have faced the same ones as well.

Through the years, I’ve faced more challenges, but I drew strength from my roots and the resilient spirit of my community. I knew that success was not just about profits but about uplifting those around me and celebrating the beauty and diversity of our hair.

In the end, my journey as a business owner of hair care products and a manufacturer for other brand owners was not just about building a successful business; it was a testament to the resilience, determination, and community spirit that defined me and my fellow entrepreneurs in the community. They painted a picture of strength and unity, creating a legacy that would inspire generations to come.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Kiandra and I am the proud owner of Boomi Hair Cosmetics & Naturale’ Manufacturing, Wholesale & Private Labeling. Boomi Hair Cosmetics is the hair care line that consists of all natural products and can be found on Walmart.com currently. Boomi Hair Cosmetics’ mission is to help your hair flourish by providing the highest quality plant-derived products that assist with customers meeting their hair goals naturally.

As for Naturale’, this is the manufacturing, wholesale, and private label services we offer to other beauty entrepreneurs that want to build a hair care brand of their own. Naturale’s mission is to provide the highest level of customer service to each entrepreneur, through establishing a long-lasting relationship of trust and commitment and by providing quality plant-derived products that cater to their customers needs.

I am most excited about the recent relaunch of Boomi and launch of Naturale’; they’re both really taking off and creating a new path in the hair care industry. There has not been another entrepreneur in the industry to do both and I am proud to set the trend. As I am conducting business and rubbing elbows with the right people, both businesses are soaring high right before my eyes. We have landed a recent deal with the Walmart.com platform to build brand exposure for Boomi and Naturale’ has gotten a chance to make products for celebrity stylist in the game already! I couldn’t be more proud, I cannot wait to see other blessings to come!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For those that are just starting out I would tell them to do their research before getting started! I have been one to try manufacturing, wholesale, and private labeling in the hair care industry. Trying them all gave me lots of knowledge and insight but over the years I’ve learned that manufacturing is what I really want to do. That brings me to my next point, I would tell others starting out to get educated on your craft. Go to school, try internships with others that are vets in the industry, research everything and try whatever you have to to get as much knowledge as you can. Never be scared to ask questions. The hair care industry is always changing so make sure to keep up. Lastly, I would tell the up and coming to actually find your niche’ and stay consistent. Niche’s are important in today’s age, hone in and get the knack of where you want to focus with your brand. Once you figure that out and do your research, stay consistent and watch God work it all out for you!!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
