Meet Kiara Aguillon

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kiara Aguillon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kiara , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Growing up, my zone of joy was always creativity. I was ready to be a theatrical actress or a high-powered fashion buyer pounding the streets of New York when I first graduated high school. Through some trial and error, I eventually found that this just wasn’t right for me and through a series of oddly aligned events, I found myself in Los Angeles, 23 years old, graduated from college with no job prospects, which is actually an exceedingly common story.

Like many, I worked my first temporary 9-5 office job which had no relation to what I wanted to do in life in a job for a grocery chain as a supply chain analyst, digging into excel sheets and making sure the buyers had sufficient cheese orders in the pipeline. As a gal from the gloomy NW, the sunny skies outside kept me optimistic that a true purpose would reveal itself in time and that the universe had a greater plan in store.

Quickly after the cheese buying job, I found a job in media where I was also digging into excel sheets notating which sweaters and treadmills had the most clicks on the website. The media job was more interesting because aside from the pivot tables, and rows of numbers I stared at endlessly, I got to work with editors whose job it was to bring us interesting stories and products to read about. As a lover of fashion, I particularly loved working on the fashion sites where I was reading about the latest trends, fabrics, products, and people.

Still though, the job didn’t offer enough creativity or face time with others, something that I thrived on. So as a true millennial who graduated during a recession, I took every opportunity I could to pivot jobs and roles with the hope that something would align into a purpose. In the next two jobs, I found what I believe to be a calling.

Starting in daytime television producing branded segments, a facet of my job was putting people in front of the camera to host. As someone who previously thought they wanted to be a theatrical actress, this was fulfilling in multiple ways. The joy I received from helping someone else fulfill their dream, while finding true storytellers to engage an audience was truly magical and I quickly realized I was really good at it.

Simply put, I found a purpose in finding the right people to entertain, delight, and connect with audiences. Although I don’t have kids, I almost liken it to the pride a parent feels when seeing their child do well or thrive, helping people connect to their dreams is extremely fulfilling.

In various ways, I have continued the work of connecting talent to opportunities through various facets. I’ve spent over 3 years “casting” content creators for high profile branded campaigns on social media. I’ve partnered creators and talent with celebrities for mega-viral content and cultural moments. This has become my purpose and I’m really thrilled to have found it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Currently I work for an agency and we partner large brands with content creators, celebrities and talent for branded campaigns. Whether that’s a commercial, an appearance on a television show, a TikTok collaboration with a celeb, booking a musical artist to perform, I am specialized in finding the best-in-class talent for these types of partnerships.

Additionally, I serve on the board for two incredible non-profits that benefit mental health. Boo2Bullying and Wisdomania who are both building something really incredible that benefit communities at large.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Tenacity- keep going when you feel like you aren’t in the right place and don’t be afraid of making constant change.

Kindness- always treating others the way want to be treated, the old adage, is exceedingly important to a people driven business. Plus, with a crazy world, it’s more important than ever to lend kindness to our peers.

Excel- hard skills wise, it’s important to know excel or google sheets really well because you will use it all the time whether you think you will or not.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Talent of all sorts. I’m always looking to see where I can plug you in that makes sense for both parties involved. I will make a disclaimer that i am NOT a manager, so I won’t be able to represent you but can keep an eye out for opportunities.
