We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kiara Aguillon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kiara , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Started with my mother pushing me to be my very best! She taught me through the lens of an immigrant family, that the opportunities are endless if you are resilient and work smart/hard.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
After many years of working in corporate roles with clients like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, McDonald’s, Adidas, YouTube and Shark, I took the leap and am independently serving in a freelance/consultant capacity for high-powered brands, agencies, and more. It’s a really empowering time in my career as I use my expertise to strategically guide clients in the right direction with their brand and creator partnerships.
What’s fun about the role is I get to empower cool brands to create strategic and fun partnerships with some of your favorite actors, influencers and musicians. Working with talent on the ground is also so fun! I love a good day on set.
It took a leap of faith on myself that I could do more than execute and build blueprints, plans, and partnerships that I’m proud of. I also advise on several mental health non-profits that promote the importance of talking about mental health in the workplace and beyond. This issue is so so important and I hope that everyone including talent with a platform, continue to push this into the spotlight.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Accountability, diligence and kindness.
It’s so important to follow through on your word and deliver your best, even if some days that’s only 60% of your total capacity. Although no one is perfect, being kind in the process is what people will remember overall.
For anyone who is just starting out or making a pivot. remember that new skills can be learned but follow through and diligence are actually what make you successful and help you achieve goals.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always looking to collaborate with folks. In this business the partnerships can be fleeting, so I look for genuine brand and talent partners who want to form long term relationships with me and my clients.
Not only is it important to have great content if you’re a content creator, to know your engagement rate and have an invested community, but also have a strong work ethic and be easy to work with.
This is what gets some creators brand deals over and over vs others who may only get one-offs.
so if you or someone you know deserves recognition please let us know here.
