Meet Kiara Jones

We recently connected with Kiara Jones and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiara, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

Well, I grew up not really knowing how to handle my emotions, or even recognize them sometimes. I grew up playing sports and even doing things that were supposed to be fun and releasing, I found ways to hate myself for my mistakes. As I grew older I started self harming to feel a sense of control over myself and also as a coping mechanism for a lot of different things, as well as self punishment that I felt I needed. I played basketball in high school and college and that was the most negative I’ve ever been in my life; burts of anger, shutdowns, constant anxiety attacks. At some point I realized how much energy it took to be THAT negative, so I saw my sister trying out spirituality and growing in that aspect and decided I’d give it a try. It’s been a long journey but I can say it’s literally saved my life. After being in such a negative and dark headspace for years, I now do what I can to look for the positive and learning opportunities in situations because that negativity literally doesn’t resonate with my mind, body, and soul anymore. I REFUSE to go back to that mindset it was exhausting and counterproductive and also just terrible be around!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Hi everyone! So my name is Kiara, but I go by Kiki. The main business I have right now is my skincare business, Kiki’s Love Skincare. I am a woman, was born a female, but in high school I started growing facial hair, and with that came alot of ingrown hairs and razor bumps. Not knowing that I had PCOS/hirsutism, I went through countless products that literally did nothing for me. I tried store bought products, customized products, even others homemade products and nothing worked. I’ve always been a creative, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and fix my own skin. 4 years later, my products make me feel and look amazing, especially because I incorporate natural herbs and powders to make sure holistic benefits are at work as well. I know what it’s like to not be confident in your own skin and have the world notice it as well, so my products are special because my goal is to help people feel more confident in themselves by healing their skin, as well as assisting in healing and relaxing the mental 🫶🏾

I’m newly on Etsy and am setting up on other online sites while I’m creating my website! And will be attending various vending events in Sacramento and the Bay Area. I make face and body soap bars, face and body wash (both products can be used in hair as well), face and body scrub, face mask, face toner/rose water, face serum, face and body moisturizer, and face body and hair soap 🥰

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Learning to not compare myself to others businesses/progress, learning not to force things, and learning not to tell myself no or something isn’t going to work before I fully give it chance!

Some advice I have is to be yourself, stay true to yourself, and sometimes you have to rewrite your plan a little and that’s okay. I am my own person, we are our own people! The more you stay true to yourself the more your product/service/business will glow and flourish. And for the rewriting your plan, sometimes as people we either plan for perfection or over plan to the point were nothing or very little gets done. It’s okay to take a step back, see what’s working what isn’t working, and try something different! You could spend 10 years trying to redo the same exact plan or be successful in 1 year (for example) by reanalyzing and taking ACTION. ACTION is the biggest part of a plan, without action there is only thought which ends up just staying in our heads for real.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, the first thing I do is take a few deep breaths. It resets my system, it allows my mind to take a breath as well, and helps me to better handle what’s going on in my head in a more calm way. In the past, I was in a space of anger and anxiety attacks when overwhelmed, which would result in self destruction, either myself or the things or people around me. Taking that deep breath or a few breaths also slows my heart rate. So sometimes I have to remind my face to untense, my body to relax, and to breathe and analyze my emotions, and react once I’ve calmed down. We have emotions for a reason and need to feel them, as well as RELEASE them.
