We recently connected with Kidd Lightning and have shared our conversation below.
Kidd , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethics from my father who was a also a mechanic and of the blue collar fame. To achieve any dream you must manifest within yourself daily, the fact that you CAN and WILL achieve it. I tell myself every morning that something good is going to happen today, and look… someone wants to interview me for example!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I created the band Detroit Trouble in 2015 out of the feeling that there should be something from Detroit that represents its hard working men and women, not just endless amounts of bands that don’t seem to have a “target audience”. The people here need representation through the music and I feel that’s the best way for them to connect to the music, we all work for someone or own a small business. We talk directly to them through our songs for example: “Hot In The D” talks about in the first line of the lyrics “I’m rolling like Seger, on my two wheeler” referring to Bobs song “Roll Me Away” and the blue collar man jumping on his iron horse and heading downtown with his paycheck to tear things up on a Friday night at the casino or party with some friends at a place like PJ Lager house or St Andrews and listen to a relatable band like Detroit Trouble. It’s the hard grittiness of the Motor City that created this band. We offer tons of different merchandise than most bands do such as custom engraved wrenches and mechanic shirts and more. Who comes to a bands show and buys a wrench with the bands name on it and the band “engraves” their names in it with an electric engraver instead of autographing the same ole things brands have been doing for years…. When you come to a D.T. show you feel connected like they knew you just got off a 12 hour shift and now it’s time to party like your breaking out of jail….

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Learning how to talk to all kinds of people, be more extroverted than introverted
Learning to do business, not just be the artist
Learning to be a leader and how to lead people

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Somebody that works very hard for what they want to achieve. If you’ve been handed everything or born with a silver spoon in your mouth then you aren’t gonna be able to relate to our music. If you work for what you want and you are humble then welcome to the show, because your one of us!
