We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kierra Ready. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kierra below.
Kierra, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Honestly, my optimism is rooted in my belief that the world is full of endless possibilities. Anything can happen—and I mean anything. That’s both terrifying and thrilling. It’s like every blank canvas or digital screen I start with—there’s potential for magic, disaster, or something in between. I also just love creating and experimenting. Trying new things fuels me because it’s a reminder that failure isn’t permanent, it’s just the pit stop before something amazing happens.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Kierra Ready, an illustrator and visual artist. Currently I’m focused on partnering with businesses to create products that not only look beautiful but mean something. My work is all about storytelling and purpose—whether it’s illustrating a design for a tee-shirt creating a mural for a community center, or designing packaging that makes you stop and say, “Whoa, that’s different.” or “It’s so cute!”
Lately, I’ve been diving deep into product-based illustrations. For me, creating isn’t just about making something look good. It’s about capturing a feeling through an item. My new cozy home collection—pillows, blankets, coasters, and art prints—is designed to make people feel comfy and at peace. It’s designed for cozy homebodies just like me. One of my favorite pieces is the “He Will Give You Rest” blanket. It was inspired by those moments when I just needed to stop, breathe, and let life feel less chaotic. It’s the blanket I grab when I need comfort after a long day, (so basically everyday). Everything in the collection was created with the same intention—peace, faith, and comfort. The collection is live now on my website freemindcreations.com so go check it out!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful qualities on my journey?
Curiosity: I had to give myself permission to create without knowing where it was going. Half of my best ideas came from just playing around with a concept and seeing what stuck.
Collaboration: This was a game-changer. I realized I could add value to almost any situation through art, whether it was a brand that needed unique packaging or a community group wanting a mural. Opportunities are everywhere if you’re open to connecting with others.
“Relentless” Resiliency: My fiance told me to stop using the word relentless because it sounds brutal, but honestly, I’ve developed a mindset of doing whatever it takes to make my wildest dreams a reality. Let me tell you, creating is not glamorous 100% of the time. Sometimes it’s frustrating, ugly, and uncomfortable. But I’ve learned that’s where the magic happens. It’s about trusting the process and leaning into the chaos.
My advice? Start before you feel ready. I STILL don’t feel ready to do half the things I do but I know through Christ I can do all things, period.
Experiment without fear of failing. I’ve accepted that failure is just another method for learning so there’s really nothing to be afraid knowing I’ll be a better version of myself after taking action.
Most importantly, look for ways your art can solve problems or tell stories for others. That’s where the impact is.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking for businesses and brands that want to create something unique and impactful. I specialize in illustrations that tell stories, so if you’re a company selling products—think journals, beauty packaging, tote bags, or even apparel—I’d love to collaborate and design something custom that stands out.
I’m also interested in working with brands that want to use illustrations to connect with their audience on a deeper level. Whether it’s a campaign that needs bold visuals, packaging that speaks to your customers, or products that inspire, I can help bring your vision to life.
