Meet Kim & Jamie Walters

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim & Jamie Walters. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim & Jamie below.

Kim & Jamie, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?

When we feel like we’re bogged down or stuck in a rut, we change something, anything. Maybe we work in a different room in the house or go to a cafe. Or mixing up our daily routine can spark renewed interest and innovation in whatever we’re working on. Variety truly is the spice of life, and we can get quite spicy.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Professionally – okay, this one is personal too – we are trying to expand our brand. Unparalleled Travel has been relatively quiet over the past few years. We’re working on blogging more consistently and building our following on Instagram, Facebook and one day, TikTok.

Social media is saturated and we’re still trying to find where we fit in in that wildly changing environment. We do know we have a unique voice that people like to hear, so we are in the process of ramping up our outreach.

Keep your eyes on us for more blogs as well as printables, merch and other random, fun things in our Redbubble store.

Professionally from a 9-5 standpoint, we focus on providing the best services that align with our abilities. Kim is a planner, organizer and skilled manager that can keep her thumb on the pulse of a business, even from 5 time zones away. I’m an old-school writer with a (currently) bottomless pool of creative inspiration. And I tell great jokes, regardless of what Kim says.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three of the qualities that we’ve found invaluable are flexibility, creativity, and patience. Things don’t always work out like we plan, so being flexible and doing our best with the existing circumstances is key. Sometimes we need to get creative in our off-the-cuff navigation of those unplanned situations. And patience in those trying times is important to maintain a level of empathy and respect. I am still personally working on patience.

We’ve developed these qualities over time, through trials. I think that’s the best way to develop yourself, though the experience. Yes, you can read how others have done it, make a plan or strategy and/or manifest, but having the actual scenario play out that forces you to react is the most effective way to learn and grow.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

Ironically, we are currently challenged by not having a clear direction in our life. We’ve done many things so far, from slogging away at traditional 9-to-5’s, tutoring and Zoom meetings online, to teaching English in foreign countries and working remotely across time zones. At this time, we have a few obligations in different countries but we’re not sure where we’ll aim to rest our heads long-term.

We’ll take our own advice and be flexible as we respond to circumstances. We will handle them creatively and patiently. We know the Universe will provide everything we need, even if it’s not apparent to us at the time we think we need to know. Our life is an adventure!
