Meet Kim Magers

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Magers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.

Kim, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I managed to overcome imposter syndrome by finally discovering my niche and realizing that this is something I’ve always loved and feel meant to do. The only person who could hold me back is myself, and I care too much about my dreams to let them fade away. I learned to stop comparing my journey to others and accepted that everyone grows at their own pace—it’s not a race! It was important for me to understand that we’re all unique, and no one can do what you do in quite the same way.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a wife and proud mom of two wonderful girls, and I’m also a wedding and portrait photographer living in the beautiful sunshine of San Diego. I truly adore capturing those special moments that people cherish for a lifetime. Weddings are particularly dear to my heart—there’s just something so magical about them! It means everything to me when couples trust me to document their big day. My photography style is all about that soft, light, and airy feel that I hope spreads joy to everyone who views it.

On top of my love for photography, I’ve always been passionate about the business side of things. Helping others is super important to me, and I’m excited to bring that into my work by supporting fellow photographers and entrepreneurs. I totally understand how challenging it can be to juggle the business aspects along with photography. Plus, I know firsthand how lonely it can feel without a supportive community—I’ve experienced that for five years! That’s why I’m dedicated to creating a friendly space where we can all lift each other up as entrepreneurs.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I truly believe that one of the most important qualities for running a small business and building your brand is to be your authentic self. Being genuine really helps you connect with your clients and fellow entrepreneurs. I wholeheartedly think there’s always a chance to grow, explore new experiences, and expand your knowledge about what you love! There’s so much out there waiting for you, so why not embrace the opportunity to learn beyond what you already know?

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m looking forward and hoping to team up with other photographers or clients for fun and creative projects next year!
