We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kim Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
From my parents and grandparents. They were both in the Marines and then went into law enforcement for careers. I then chose law enforcement for my career and found that your work ethic IS how people see you. I was always told to be a hard worker. Be respectful and have honor in everything you do. My career also taught me the exact same thing. If you work hard, show respect for others and have honor in how you behave and what you stand for, people respect you back and you’ll have good relationships and have trust. Perfect combination to be successful in any part of your life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My husband Craig and myself own and run Miller’s Off Road Adventures. It’s a Jeep touring business where people rent our jeeps and we guide them into the Stanislaus National Forest. We thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and taking them on an adventure in the forest. We enjoy showing families the mountains, wildlife, rivers and landscapes. We have a scavenger hunt for kids who enjoy hunting for items in the forest. Craig and I love the outdoors, four wheeling and love to share this with folks from the city or different parts of the world who don’t get to drive dirt roads and see the beauty the mountains have to offer.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being open to new ideas. Being adventurous and don’t be afraid to fail! All of this is basically how Craig and I run our business and how we have raised our kids. If you enjoy doing something, don’t stop until you’re successful at it. You’d be surprised how much you enjoy going to work when you love what you do. Not everyday is perfect. Not every customer is going to be happy. But, by the end of the day, if we’ve given our best, we are happy and that is pretty much all that matters.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
The ideal client is one who wants to be open to new opportunities and adventures. Not being upset or discouraged if something (flat tire or breakdown) doesn’t go well. We can always fix it and start over. If they are afraid of driving across a river, let us know and we can help them gain confidence in doing something they are afraid of. Having a client happy and having fun is the perfect customer.
