Meet Kim Rittberg

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kim Rittberg a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kim, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by fighting fear. Let me back up: I spent the first 10 years of my career as a TV producer and journalist and eventually became a media executive – launching the first-ever video unit for Us Weekly. I truly loved my work, the team that I worked with and getting to be creative every day. I was running a 17 person team and was pregnant at the time but it was exhilarating. However, I found myself working during the birth of my son and I felt like a caricature from a rom-com about the ‘career woman.’ How could I not have this pivotal moment to myself? How could I be successful but not in control? I decided I would work for myself. However the next stage wasn’t so simple. I was racked with self-doubt. Despite being an accomplished media executive on top of my game, and an expert marketer, I felt unsure of myself, unsure of how I’d build my business, insecure about showing up on camera to market myself and how I’d bring in leads.

Despite my imposter syndrome, I envisioned my kids jumping into my arms at school pickup and the freedom of self-employment. That vivid picture kept me focused and on the path.

I began building my consulting business, began showing up on camera consistently and launched a podcast. I was too busy to question myself, I wanted that life of freedom so badly, it crowded out my negative self-talk.

I soon went from anonymous accomplished professional to ‘thought leader,’ I began speaking across the country, launched a top 1% podcast and began contributing to Fast Company.

Now I teach business owners how to leverage video to market themselves. This includes teaching them confidence on camera, messaging their value, and strategically crafting video to bring in clients. I feel so honored to be able to be a small part of their success, to help other business owners master new skills that put them at an advantage in this new digital and social media revolution. I wasn’t seeking my purpose but I definitely found it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Video is the future! (If you don’t know this we can chat further!) It’s the most efficient way to introduce yourself to fresh leads, stay in touch with existing contacts and expand your sphere of influence. I run a program called Video Boot Camp that gives independent professionals like real estate agents, consultants, coaches, lawyers and authors the knowledge and tactical skills to use video to grow their clients, revenue and visibility. It takes them from feeling overwhelmed to feeling confident and in control – knowing their video attracts and converts ideal clients.

They finish the live coaching course with confidence on camera and in public speaking, Fresh messaging that expresses their value, a system and process to create content consistently and efficiently without feeling burnt out.
They also get a proper set up for filming, a brainstorm process, and pre-built scripts and templates for videos (documents and PDFs that you can customize for your brand).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Confidence, curiosity and clarity. If you don’t believe in yourself and your message it becomes very hard to bring others on the journey with you. Curiosity brought me a wonderful carer in media – an industry that is forever changing. I love that I get to learn and my most successful clients also are driven by curiosity and personal growth. Clarity is the key to avoiding overwhelmed. I keep a sticky note with 1 or 2 strategic goals at a time. Anything that doesn’t line up with those is a ‘no.’

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love connecting with other business owners to support each other! I love connecting with and speaking to Independent professionals and small business networking groups.
