Meet Kimara Nicholas

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimara Nicholas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kimara, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

In 2006, I had a mental health breakdown, and since then, every day is a battle. My persistence can be attributed to a promise that I made to my children and to knowing that I owe it to myself to live my life to the fullest. I strive to occupy my mind with positive affirmations daily, reading the Bible, listening to good music, and, of course, painting. Yes, I still have rough days, but I try my best to limit them to 2 days in a row to wallow in the depression if possible.

My family is also a huge part of my persistence in going forward in my mental health journey. They will make sure that I eat, are there when I need to cry, and are just a great support system.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the owner of Picture Perfect Paintings, and I like to help people heal, relax, and have fun while painting beautiful pictures. I was looking for a way to relax and to help calm my mind, and I found an article that said that painting was a great way to go. So while looking on the internet, I came across an amazing membership-based organization called Paint Party Headquarters and joined. It is an amazing group, and through the help of this group, I decided to start my own paint party business. Thus, Picture Perfect Paintings was born. From my first event, I saw how much fun it was and how relaxed everyone was, including myself, and I often find myself pulling out my paints and canvases to paint on those days when I am feeling down.

Painting is a healing tool for mental health, and I want to heal others through my business. Picture Perfect Paintings is adding ceramics, hat burning, and coloring to our upcoming Fall Parties, so make sure you book now.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three important qualities that I believe have been the most impactful in my journey are never stop learning. I try to learn something new every day. Whether it’s a new painting technique or a new app that will help my business. Learning new things keeps your mind active. Another impactful quality is never stop asking questions; this quality ties in with the first one. If you don’t know something, ask. If you don’t ask, you won’t learn. I am constantly asking questions, at the doctor’s office, to strangers, it doesn’t matter, if I don’t know, I will ask.

The last quality that has been the most impactful in my journey is to not give up. Things may seem like they are never going to get better, but they will… eventually.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was that they have always supported me. From my school days, through my two pregnancies, through surgeries, and of course through my battle with mental health, my parents have been by my side. My mom has been my rock through my entire journey with mental health from day one. She was the one who went with me to the first doctor’s appointment because at first we didn’t know what was wrong with me. Even today, she is the one who comforts me when I am having a bad day.
