We recently connected with Kimbella Williamson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimbella, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my worth ethic from my parents. My father was in the Army for 22 years. He then became a correctional officer, while also having a part time job at our local grocery store. I never saw my father miss work for any frivolous reason. He went every day with a smile on his face and never letting anything stop his happiness. My mother worked as well, but she also went to school while taking care of my brother and me. I learned from both of them to always put forth my best effort no matter what was on my plate.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a food service provider. My business, Kimbella’s Chef Services, was made to provide deliciously flavored food to feed your soul. I have loved to cook since I was given my first easy bake oven as a child. I remember making the cakes and putting them in the real oven, instead of the little baking machine. Horrible mistake. But I knew then, I loved to cook. I love the happiness I get to see on people’s faces when they get to taste my food. And nothing makes me feel better than to see how excited they are to tell me how much they loved what I could provide for them. Nothing makes me feel better than making others happy with the talent God blessed me with. I believe my God given talent is to make people happy through sharing my food, and one day I hope I can share it with the world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One very important skill to have is to be resilient. People will try to deter you from doing what you believe is correct, because what you’re trying to do is not their vision. Don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. There will be bumps and roadblocks but you have to put your head down and keep pushing. You also need to be able to adapt. Curveballs can come from anywhere at any time. You have to be able to keep a level head and roll with the punches to get the job done. And last but not least for me, you have to keep God at the center of whatever it is that you’re doing. You can do a lot of things on your own, but with God you can get a lot further. Pray and seek him and He will lead you and your business in the right direction.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who understands that my price is my price. Also they know that i might not be able to provide exactly what you’re asking for, but I will do my best to work with you and provide you with everything you need to the best of my ability. Sometimes clients don’t understand everything that goes with catering. It takes a lot to feed people, but if you are open to being more understanding of the prices and how it works, I can most definitely work with you.
