We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kimberley Homer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kimberley below.
Kimberley, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Whew, this is one of those questions that makes me have to open up and share a nice dose of vulnerability. In all honesty, Midwifery led me on that path. Wherever I worked, I thrived, and I performed exceptionally well, but for all the wrong reasons. It came out of fear and also trying to fit in. Lets face it…in this world we live in, we get recognized when we stand out, and for me to stand out, came in the vehicle of my 9-5 (or 5a-4p/1p-12a/ or clock in and don’t leave until it’s done). I really didn’t have a passion in life until purpose found me. Because of purpose, which came in the form of Midwifery, it was then, when I saw value in my life.
When you finally have purpose, it’s like you gain a new set of eyes! I saw things for my life that I had never envisioned. I still cry today, because before that, I was surprised to be around after hitting 30. It is such a deep empty feeling to have when you don’t know who you are and why you’re here, and I’m unreservedly grateful for purpose. I began to understand what womanhood looked like for me. I desired a deeper connection with my higher self, and to do that, I had to learn about self love. That ultimately took years. Why? I learned self love through life lessons, sisterhood, relationships, and friendships.
I realized, not only did I desire more, I deserved more! And BAY-BEE, when it hits you like that, your internal evolution turns into an external revolution! Going from faking it to make it, but realizing you had it the whole Got-Damn Time! It just had to be cultivated! Sisterhood relationships were immensely important to my growth! Women who became my mentors…women who were friends became my sisters…my sisters became my accountability partners!
It was an eruption in my soul and spirit to have these wonderful beings pouring into me! I wake up now knowing I’m worth it, whatever “IT” may be, I know “IT” is full of joy…love…passion…empathy…resilience…and through that, I continue to grow my confidence and self esteem!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I AM, a Licensed Midwife! Not to get me confused with a Certified Nurse Midwife. I was trained in the art and craft of traditional Midwifery and my practice consist of care during your childbearing cycle. That means, I am Healthcare Provider that cares for you through the following periods: Pre-Conception, Prenatal, Labor, Delivery, and Postpartum! In my practice, I provide WHOLE-Listic care, in which I incorporate my Herbal Apothecary, Nutrition, Education, and Physical Fitness. The families that I have served and are currently serving, truly enjoys being able to have their prenatal care performed in the comforts of their home! I have to add, I don’t blame them either!
Most that know me, know that I am a Mobile Midwife at heart. I’ve been honored to be in the birth setting throughout the state of Florida, as well as southern Georgia! What am I most excited about?
I am officially a Jacksonville, Duval County resident, as of June 1st! There is so much I want to accomplish here, and the vibe of the city has been amazing. (It has to be since I’ve been commuting here for 4 years LOL)
I’m getting ready to relaunch my Childbearing Cycle Herbs, along with Womb Wealth-ness Herbs as well! So definitely be on the lookout!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Okay, so if I had to name 3 in this moment, they would be: -Willingness to allow the world to present what’s available to me
-Knowing that what I don’t know, I can learn… what I do know, I can teach… and there is a cost for each
-Passion, purpose, and patience is a gentle storm
The advice I would give would be to know who you are…not what they say you are…not who you think you are… not who you should portray… know who you are, because when you have those moments when it’s just you, and you have to sit with yourself, look at yourself, and reflect…you damn sure don’t want to do that with a stranger! Self awareness is a hell of a superpower!
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Anytime I happen to experience being overwhelmed, the first thing I do is acknowledge it in it’s entirety. Identification: what is it? why is it? where is it? what is it? is it even mine? Once I identify it, I take a moment to sit with it in silence. I have to silence being overwhelmed because that can lead to an anxiety attack, and we don’t want those. After having my moment of silence, it’s time to prioritize! If I am having trouble silencing it…what I DO have a sisterhood! I can pick up the phone, knowing the person that picks up can help me refocus.
Make a plan, and understand that EVERYTHING isn’t meant to be done NOW! You have to learn how time works, and how it works in your life! Because once it’s gone, you can’t buy it back! So as they say on one of my favorite shows “Relax…Relate…Release!”
