Kimberly, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
God Prayer Meditation and Medication Learning to communicate with myself about myself now I am patient with me. Being open to a combination of strategies, professional help in individual/group grief/mental health therapy, medications, healthy lifestyle changes, and a strong supportive network from loved ones. Persistence is key, and it’s essential to celebrate small victories along the way. Coping mechanisms that work for me, always starts with breathwork, mindfulness, exercise, creative outlets, and relaxation techniques, have been very beneficial. Remember, progress may be gradual, but with courage confidence and consistency every step forward is a step toward recovery.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that were most impactful in overcoming chronic anxiety and depression-related mental health issues were resilience, self-awareness, and self-compassion.

1. Resilience: Developing resilience involves bouncing back from setbacks and adapting to challenges. Building resilience can be fostered through practicing optimism, problem-solving skills, maintaining a support network, and seeking out positive experiences even in difficult times. Engaging in activities that promote mental and emotional strength, such as mindfulness or journaling, can also contribute to resilience.

2. Self-awareness: Understanding one’s own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors is crucial in managing mental health issues. Developing self-awareness involves introspection, mindfulness, and seeking feedback from trusted individuals. Journaling, therapy, and meditation are effective ways to enhance self-awareness. Learning to recognize triggers and early warning signs of anxiety and depression can empower individuals to implement coping strategies before symptoms escalate.

3. Self-compassion: Practicing self-compassion involves treating oneself with kindness, understanding, and acceptance, especially during challenging times. This includes acknowledging personal limitations without self-criticism and embracing imperfections. Cultivating self-compassion can be achieved through mindfulness practices, positive self-talk, and challenging unrealistic expectations. It’s important to prioritize self-care and recognize that setbacks are a natural part of the recovery process.

For individuals early in their journey, my advice is:

– Seek professional help: Reach out to a therapist or counselor who specializes in treating anxiety and depression. They can provide personalized guidance and support tailored to your needs.

– Educate yourself: Learn as much as you can about anxiety and depression, including their symptoms, causes, and treatment options. Understanding your condition can help demystify it and empower you to make informed decisions about your care.

– Build a support network: Surround yourself with understanding and supportive individuals who can provide encouragement and empathy. Joining support groups or online communities can also connect you with others who are going through similar experiences.

– Practice self-care: Prioritize activities that promote your physical, mental, and emotional well-being, such as exercise, healthy eating, adequate sleep, and relaxation techniques. Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine.

– Be patient and persistent: Recovery from anxiety and depression is often a gradual process, and there may be setbacks along the way. Be gentle with yourself and celebrate small victories. Stay committed to your treatment plan and trust that progress is possible with time and effort.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Parents have been most helpful they are my role models and I would not be The Woman I Am Today without them. God blessed me with 4 amazing parents my Grandmother, my Mom and both my Dad’s and they have been there making such a positive impact all my life. I am grateful I had the opportunity to see first hand what real love and relationships looked like. As a black woman in today’s world that is very important to me. My entire family is my why for many reasons and I really love them for always believing in me and my big dreams. Showing up to 80% my events, looking at the audience seeing my family in the crowd always makes me feel so awesome I am truly blessed. They actually come buying my products, sharing my business services and accomplishments. My parents were entrepreneurial as well, so there’s that knowledge and wisdom passed down from generation to generation thanks to my Grandmother. My family is so talented and amazing our uniqueness is truly one of a kind. The strength and resilience is the inspiration I needed to see to show me it was even possible. Mom and Dad had life’s experiences of ups and downs, twists and turns with many challenges they had to overcome also but they’ve always lead by example at home and in our Community. Their love and support is unmatched and their unbreakable spirit of camaraderie they’ve displayed over the past 43 years is why I have the marriage I have today a whole decade later. Simply reminding me that we are not alone in our journey and that together, we can navigate through even the toughest times. Last but not least My Amazing Husband who has been my rock, my safe space, my support even when I was pushing him everything and everyone away which was actually helping melt my heart back together. I gained my strength back, I was able to get up and do the work and love myself again. I found me again I got my ROAR back. I was able to get back up and do it again. He wouldn’t let me stay in the pain I struggled with daily. I love that I intentionally surrounded myself with people who love God and me too. This is what grieving well looks like for me and it’s different for everyone. I am immensely grateful for my Family and Friends! They Loved Me Back 2 Life 🧡 I am still Healing Toxic Habits and Our Stories are truly for His Glory. My Auntie Pam, My Uncle Tony, My Cousins, My Grandmother and My Daddy are my Angels now and I miss them dearly. They loved me from my first breath to their last breath and I loved them back. I am praying I make all my Angels and Ancestors proud. ♥️ I Am Kimberly A Guess “The Show Up Queen”
