Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimberly Laughlin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kimberly , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
When it comes to keeping creativity alive, there is no exact right answer. There is only what works for you. For me, that means surrounding myself with people that make me feel creative, and immersing myself in the art. Being in school and studying acting for camera, forces me to learn and grow and keep the creativity alive and flowing.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
A little about me is that my name is Kimberly Laughlin, I am from Westchester New York. I am an actress & performer. I am an actress who has worked on short films, scenes, plays, and musicals her entire life. I am a recent graduate of the American musical and dramatic academy New York campus and graduated from the acting for camera program. I am currently studying to continue my degree for a BFA in acting for the camera in Los Angeles! A fun fact about is that I have an identical twin sister (who also went to AMDA but for Musical Theater) and we were the baby in season 6 on the sopranos. I’m most excited to put my work out there, and create something that effects an audience. I feel the entire industry excites me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Learning to advocate for myself, being open to learning from others, teachers, friends etc. and lastly, just being kind is a skill on it’s own, no one wants to work with someone rude. My advice would be to be open to anything that comes your way, and to always keep learning.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I feel like there are so many people that have helped me grow and learn as an actress. I feel like surrounding myself around my friends and family who are so creative in different ways has definitely shaped me to who I am as an actress today. With the training I have done on both NY & LA campuses of AMDA, I have learned a lot and have a lot of tools to put in my toolbox.
