Meet Kimberly Lavon

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimberly Lavon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberly , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
The world today seems to be overloaded with red tape, gatekeepers, opportunists and more. They all seem to collide in unison at every turn especially for creatives. I don’t think that’s fair.

So in an effort to right that wrong I give as much as I can when I can. That’s why my business policy is “full or free.” Meaning my time and products are full price or free if there is a demonstrated need and opportunity for me to help.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Artists and creative people everywhere are woefully underrepresented, and underpaid but they shouldn’t be! This industry is valued at 1 trillion and growing at an average of 14% every year.

It’s facts like this that people need to know. There is big money in the arts and for artists! The only obstacle between the two are the resources and support to get it. That’s where Mint Maven comes in.

Creativity connects us but every creative person is different. We all have different needs and wants. What motivates me might drain you so it’s vitally important that we all get the unique help we need.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important advice I can give any creative entrepreneur is this:

• The true sign of an amateur is too much. Make sure you follow instructions to the letter. Respect people’s time and always keep it simple.

• Creativity is the number one in demand skill of the future so lean into it. Be inventive. Take risks. Never be afraid of making mistakes because that’s how you learn and grow.

• Flexibility and adaptability are key. The world is always changing and evolving. If you want to keep pace be flexible. Keep your mind open to new ideas and give people space and grace. You never know when you’ll be in need of it yourself!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
