We recently connected with Kimberly Sayers and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’ve always had a deep passion for fitness, stemming from my childhood when I played every sport I could get my hands on. I’ve always loved the thrill of competition and the camaraderie of being part of a team. As I grew older, I pursued my academic interests, earning a BS in History and African studies, as well as a Master’s in Urban Education and Public Policy. Along the way, I opened and managed multiple restaurants, where I took pride in training new team members and being part of the travel training team.
It was during this journey that I discovered bodybuilding as a hobby, and it completely transformed my understanding of the mind-body-soul connection in health and wellness. This perspective became especially significant during a traumatic life event—losing my mom on August 17, 2017. Instead of letting this tragedy define me, I channeled my grief into a mission: to help others align their mind, body, and soul with their health and wellness purposes.
Focusing my energy on creating a training facility and program has allowed me to advocate for women’s health in the healthcare system and empower others to believe they deserve to be healthy and fit. This journey has truly shaped my purpose, and I am dedicated to helping others find their path to wellness.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Absolutely! I am passionate about empowering individuals to achieve their fitness and wellness goals through a holistic approach that encompasses mind, body, and soul. At the heart of my work is my training facility, where I offer tailored programs designed to meet the unique needs of each individual. I believe that everyone deserves to feel confident and healthy, and I strive to create an inclusive environment that fosters community and support.
What excites me most about my work is witnessing the transformative journeys of my clients. There’s nothing more special than seeing someone who once doubted their abilities blossom into a strong, confident person. It’s not just about physical strength; it’s about building resilience, boosting self-esteem, and nurturing a positive mindset.
Additionally, I’m committed to advocating for women’s health within the healthcare system. I aim to raise awareness about the importance of wellness and provide resources that empower women to take charge of their health.
In terms of new developments, I’m thrilled to announce a series of upcoming events with The Queen Circle Program, that is ran by Olivia Lawrence and myself, that encompasses, Fitness, Financial understanding and spiritual reflection. Both my Personal Training Business Heart Fitness Studio and the Queen Circle are aligned with focusing on community wellness, including workshops,Retreats (8/19 was our first Retreat in Palm Springs Cali), group training sessions, and talks that cover various topics such as nutrition, mental health, and fitness strategies. The first workshop is October 19th at the Heart Fitness Studio. We have three Retreats planned for next year, more details to come. These events will foster connections and provide valuable insights to help our community thrive. My training programs includes online consultations / personal programs for those who want to access our resources remotely.
I’m excited to continue this journey and invite everyone to join us in creating a supportive space where wellness is a priority, and every individual can reach their fullest potential!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I believe the three most impactful qualities have been resilience, a growth mindset, and strong communication skills.
1. Resilience is essential in navigating the ups and downs of any journey. There were times when challenges seemed overwhelming, but each setback provided a valuable lesson that contributed to my growth. When faced with difficulties, remind yourself that setbacks are temporary, and persistence pays off.
2. A growth mindset has allowed me to embrace challenges as opportunities for learning. Instead of viewing failures as reasons to give up, I’ve learned to see them as stepping stones toward improvement. I encourage those starting out to cultivate curiosity and stay open to learning. Seek out feedback and view criticism as a valuable tool for growth.
3. Strong communication skills have been crucial in building relationships and fostering a sense of community. Whether it’s expressing my vision, training clients, or advocating for health, effective communication helps create understanding and connection. To develop this skill, practice active listening and engage in conversations with diverse groups.
For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: Just start! Everyone was an amateur at some point, and action is what leads to progress. Seek out a mentor or someone you trust who can provide guidance and support as you explore your ideas. Having someone who has your best interests at heart can make a significant difference.
Most importantly, believe in your dreams. Your passion and desire to make a difference are what will drive you forward. Embrace your journey, stay committed, and never lose sight of your vision. Each small step you take today builds a path toward your future success!
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client for personal training and lifestyle coaching is anyone who is ready for genuine change and is tired of feeling unhealthy, exhausted, and mentally drained. I believe that fitness is for everyone, regardless of their athletic ability or experience level—I’m here to support and help anyone who is motivated to improve their health and wellness.
When it comes to contest prep clients, the criteria shift slightly. My ideal contest prep client is someone who is coachable and open to guidance. They need to have a clear vision of their goals and understand that this is fundamentally their journey. It’s crucial for them to maintain open communication throughout the process. Since bodybuilding can be a subjective sport, it’s important for clients to be adaptable and receptive to feedback.
Ultimately, I look for clients who are committed to their growth and transformation, who are willing to put in the effort, and who understand that their journey is unique to them. Together, we can navigate the road to achieving their goals while prioritizing health and wellness along the way.
