Meet Kimberly Terry

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimberly Terry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kimberly, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

My confidence and self-esteem develops stronger as I mature in life and in God. As a child, I was always different. And being naturally different is not always fun as a child. I was a tall and very developed, and was teased because of it. I was also very artistic and involved in performing arts. Being nvolved in performing arts; dance, theatre, and orchestra, helped me to build my confidence and self-esteem because it required me to have and display confidence in my performances.
Believing in myself motivated me to become a fashion designer and start my own fashion business. My faith and growth in God revealed my purpose in life. I now understand why He made me different, and I know who He created me to be. This is the highest confidence a person can have!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Kimberly Terry. I am the owner and designer for Kouture Kreations. We have been an established brand for 12 years. I am a self-taught designer from Memphis, TN, and I began my sewing journey at the age of 15. My brand specialty is custom bridal and formal wear.
These past 12 years have allowed me to build my skill and business knowledge in the fashion industry. I have expanded my brand to not only offer fashion designer services, but we are a fashion business! We have a teen fashion designer summer camp, offer sewing classes, alteration services, internships, and newly, fashion designer consulting. We also offer ready-made couture wear on our website, www.kouturekreations.com.
In 2024, we added a “Fashion Tour” to the schedule and began showcasing our designs in reputable fashion shows in the USA. Those include, but are not limited to New York Fashion Week and DC Fashion Week. We will be expanding our”Fashion Tour” internationally in 2025.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1.) Always seek God first. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of your growing business/ journey. And sometimes we can lean into our own understanding instead of His. But when you seek Him first, He will order your steps, give you wisdom, and bless you beyond measure.

2.) Work in SILENCE! Confide in 1-2 mentors or spiritual partners. Most will not understand your vision. That’s okay, they don’t have to. Working in silence will decrease negative noise that can be distracting.

3.) Do it “afraid.” It’s okay to be anxious about the unknown. It’s okay to not have a perfect plan. Your plan will improve as you keep going. Experience is the BEST teacher, and in some cases the ONLY teacher. Pay attention, and learn from your mistakes.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am interested in collaborating with other creators and service providers in the fashion industry. These include but are not limited to wardrobe stylist, makeup artist, photographers/ videographers, and models.
