We were lucky to catch up with Kimberly Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I’ve always had a natural inclination to take risks—it’s in my DNA. There’s something thrilling about going all in to make my dreams a reality. Risk-taking has been part of my journey for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was drawn to the adrenaline of trying new things. I’m someone who loves learning and embracing new experiences. I’m not afraid of failure, and I’m definitely not shy about admitting when things don’t go as planned. What matters most to me is that I don’t give up easily.
When I was younger, I would jump into risks without much thought, but over time, I’ve become more strategic. After a few setbacks and learning firsthand the true cost of certain decisions, I’ve gotten better at weighing the options. Now, instead of just asking myself what the risk is if I take the chance, I also think, what’s the risk of not taking it? This mindset helps me make smarter, more calculated decisions.
I’ve never regretted any of the risks I’ve taken—even those that hurt the most. Each one, no matter how difficult, has been a lesson. Every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Kimberly, the owner and founder of A Dawning Xperience, an event design and planning company. I officially launched my business a little over two years ago, and I can honestly say I’m deeply passionate about what I do. I’m self-taught, self-motivated, and driven by a desire to change the dynamics of my family and community.
My journey into event design started with my love for art and design. I’ve experimented with various mediums, but event design is the one that truly stuck. What began with helping family and friends eventually turned into a full-fledged profession. When I realized how design could make people feel luxurious, empowered, and valued, I knew this was the path I wanted to pursue. There’s something magical about how design can elevate someone’s experience, and that’s what keeps me inspired.
Sleepless nights don’t feel like sleepless nights when you’re so excited about seeing your visions come to life. It’s incredibly rewarding to help people create lasting memories for their most significant milestones.
Looking ahead, I’m excited for the growth of A Dawning Xperience. We’re expanding our clientele and aiming to make an even greater impact through design within the community. As we transition into the luxury market, we’re eager to collaborate with more local brands, supporting their missions and helping them elevate their presence—whether for personal events or corporate branding. The journey is just getting started!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience, stress management, and self-belief are essential in this industry. It’s no joke. While I absolutely love what I do, event planning is undoubtedly one of the most stressful fields to be part of. I remember a friend telling me they shared my career choice with their family, and their reaction was priceless. They looked at my friend like they were crazy, saying, “Why on earth would she choose that?” I couldn’t help but laugh because, honestly, it’s true! The long nights, the stress—it’s all part of the package. But what keeps me going is that it’s a TEAM effort, and you’re bound to face countless challenges along the way.
That’s where resilience comes in. You have to be able to pick yourself up when you stumble, own up to your mistakes, and focus on areas for growth. It’s all part of the process. When things go wrong during an event (and trust me, they will), you can’t just throw in the towel. It’s your job to stay calm, think on your feet, and see your client’s vision through to the end—no matter what. There’s a lot of pressure, but you’ve got to stay solution-oriented and think fast.
My advice? Always have a can-do attitude and firmly believe in your ability to handle whatever challenges come your way. You’ve got this!

2024 was truly a pivotal year for A Dawning Xperience. We had the privilege of being part of some incredible events, many of which were much bigger than ourselves. We collaborated with amazing companies and organizations like Boston While Black, Union Capital, Black Owned Bos, and Zazfest—just to name a few. These brands are all deeply committed to community, impact, and creating generational change, values that I strongly align with.
I’m eager to continue working with companies that are focused on social impact, driving change, and being that positive force for others. These collaborations have not only been incredibly fulfilling professionally but have also been personal highlights in my own journey. I’m excited to continue passing the torch and building more meaningful partnerships.
