Meet Kimberly Wirfs

We recently connected with Kimberly Wirfs and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Losing my husband after only 14 years of marriage I have been able to see thing in other people’s lives that I didn’t before. I saw how people’s lives are impacted when their documents and wishes are not organized and written out before a loved one’s death. This is where I decided to give my tragedy a purpose and I developed a binder called the Life’s Essentials Binder. It’s a place to not only store your documents but to also write out your wishes in case you die. This gives me hope that other spouses or loved ones will have all of the necessary information and not have to make all of the decisions by themself. I know how hard it can be to grieve and plan a funeral at the same time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Kimberly Wirfs, founder of Moxy which is an operations agency. I am also the creator of the Life Essentials Binder. As a solo parent, widow, and someone who’s always been passionate about organizing both business and personal life, I’ve made it my mission to help people take control of their most important moments. Moxy is all about simplifying the chaos of business management admin tasks, social media, systems, you name it. But what really fuels me is my work with the Life Essentials Binder. You never know if something tragic or traumatic is going to happen. I want to share my knowledge with others to be prepared, not paralyzed. Inspired by my own experiences, this binder is designed to help you get your most important documents in order, so you’re ready for whatever life throws your way.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey are resilience, organization, and empathy.

Resilience: Life has tested me with loss and the challenges of solo parenting. I’ve learned that resilience is about getting back to purpose, even when things feel overwhelming. My advice is that setbacks are part of the journey. It’s about adapting and growing through them.

Organization: Staying organized and building systems has been key in both Moxy and developing the Life Essentials Binder. My advice is to start small with simple processes for daily tasks and build on them. Systems clear your mental space and let you focus on what matters.

Empathy: Having experienced grief, I know how important it is to create solutions that truly help people. My advice is to listen closely to the needs of others. The better you understand them, the better you can serve them.
For anyone who is starting your journey, focus on resilience, systems, and empathy. They’ll give you the strength and structure to thrive, even in tough times.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

I believe in the value of being well-rounded. While leaning into your strengths is essential, I think it’s equally important to invest in areas that aren’t your natural forte. Life and business are full of challenges that often require a wide range of skills. Being well-rounded allows you to adapt and tackle different obstacles as they come. I know not everyone feels this way but I’ve seen how this has helped my business.

When I first started Moxy, I leaned heavily into my strengths of organization and systems. But as my business grew, I realized that I needed to improve my marketing, communication, and tech skills to keep up with the demand. Instead of solely relying on what I knew, I invested time and effort into learning new areas and developing a more holistic skill set. It wasn’t always easy, but it made me a more versatile business owner and helped me connect with clients on different levels.

I’ve also found that being well-rounded allows me to relate to a wider range of people and situations. In my personal life, having diverse skills, from cooking to problem-solving, has helped me navigate the ups and downs of solo parenting and grief. It’s about being resourceful, open to growth, and ready for whatever comes your way.

So, while it’s essential to play to your strengths, I think becoming well-rounded gives you the flexibility to thrive in any situation. It’s a balance—growing your strengths while continuously evolving in areas where you have room to improve.
