Meet Kindall Tucker

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kindall Tucker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kindall, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Certain characteristics have absolutely contributed to my resilience, such as optimism, perseverance, adaptability, self-confidence, and a sense of purpose. I think learning all of these things are vital in order to stay strong. Having a strong support system, my family, friends, and mentors; They have all provided me with encouragement, emotional support at times, and guidance when I need it the most. Having experienced and successfully navigated previous challenges has helped me as well. Going through difficult experiences and overcoming them builds confidence. Emotional intelligence, self-awareness, empathy, and the ability to manage emotions, has helped recover through all the adversity life has handed me. Developing a positive attitude, reframing negative thoughts, and maintaining an optimistic outlook is key. Resilience is a dynamic and evolving concept, and it’s always developing and strengthening with each year.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Microblading Artist, Piercer, and First Year tattooer. I’ve been obsessed with creating for as long as I can remember. I was born and raised in Dallas, TX and relocated to Oahu, Hawaii, in early 2022. I travel to Dallas a few times a year to tattoo as well as do eyebrows! Most of the year i’m in Kapolei, Oahu at Sacred Art Kapolei. While been a cosmetic tattoo artist for three years, I’ve been tattooing for a little over one year. I love black and grey illustrative, realistic, and ornamental art. My favorite part of what I do is getting to know my clients, understanding their goals, and creating a custom design that they get to wear forever. Everyday I am learning something new, challenging myself, growing and evolving.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, Confidence, and Awareness are the three most important qualities I think one can have as a tattooer. Understanding your own strengths, weaknesses, and emotions. Reflecting on your thoughts, behaviors, and actions to gain a better understanding of yourself. Self-awareness allows you to make conscious choices that align with your values and helps build confidence. Life is all choices. Patience is developed through conscious effort. Recognize that not everything happens instantly or as per your expectations. Practice taking deep breaths, finding relaxation techniques, and reminding yourself to be patient during challenging situations. Embrace challenges and learn from failures: View challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. Embrace them as chances to improve and develop resilience. Remind yourself that failures are not permanent, and they can help you build confidence and patience for future endeavors. Embrace feedback as an opportunity for growth and improvement. Be open to receiving constructive criticism and view it as a way to enhance your skills and refine your interactions with others. Take calculated risks and challenge yourself to try new experiences or tasks. Stepping out of your comfort zone helps develop confidence, as it shows that you are capable of adapting to unfamiliar situations, and can handle uncertainty. lt is an ongoing process that takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself, practice self-compassion, and embrace continuous growth and learning.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Take a deep breath. Prioritize and make a to-do list. Breaking down your workload into smaller, manageable tasks can make it feel less overwhelming. Take care of yourself by getting enough sleep, eating well, and having fun! Learn to say no to additional responsibilities or commitments that will only add to your overwhelm. Prioritize your own well-being and mental health.
Remember, it’s important to be kind to yourself and acknowledge that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed at times.
