Meet Kinesis Theory

We recently connected with Kinesis Theory and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kinesis , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Well we don’t think it’s something that we’ve completely overcome, just something we work through as a band. It’s difficult enough trying to make a name for yourself, but what we are doing is trying to make a name for ourselves in a genre of music where we don’t typically see people that look like us. So we do think about how we will be received industrially, as an all Black band in alternative rock. Even being creatives and writers of our own music, we can’t help but to think about how our music will be received, and we push through for our love of music.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

We go by the name Kinesis Theory and we’re an alternative rockband based out of Atlanta Ga. We started the band in 2017 but the three of us have been playing together since 2019. We’ve accomplished so much in such a short amount of time it’s insane. And coming together into a band with all different backgrounds of music and ideas has helped us develop even more. All of the music we have so far is written by us and produced by us; made us realize we really like the idea of being able to be free with our words and our sound. We love the different varieties we have in our songs and our fans love it too. Those same fans are the reason we’re on iHeart radio now! Each song has its own story and that’s the greatest part about being musicians. We get to decide how we want to tell the story which makes it so much fun!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Our three most important skills that were most impactful to our journey would have to be communication, being open, and practice, practice, practice. Because we are a band we have to be able to communicate effectively with each other or it doesn’t work. It’s also a great quality to have when working with other musicians or people in the music industry. In all, we have to be open to new ideas or new ways of doing things. This has definitely opened new doors for us and new things we couldn’t have imagined. Honing in and practicing on our craft has made a huge impact on us individually and our music. We are better musicians and better writers because of it.

Some advice for those early in their journey would be to keep at it if you love what you’re doing. Follow your heart. Keep practicing and ask questions of those who are in music as well.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Our biggest area of growth in the past 12 months would have to be the quality of music. We have grown so much as a band and as musicians and have a deeper connection with each other. We feel now that it has passed on in the music. Because of that we can now be heard on iHeart radio.
