We caught up with the brilliant and insightful King Swank a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
King Swank, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
As a rapper/producer I’ve faced writer’s block and beat block plenty of times, I wouldn’t say I’ve mastered how to push through it, but I’ve definitely come up with a few ways to get out of it.
One thing that’s helped me is making myself get up and create even when I don’t feel inspired, or working my “Rap Muscles” by spitting freestyles over different beats for a set amount of time even if the content of what your spitting might sound stupid you gotta keep working at it, even on tough days.
When it comes to production it’s a bit more simple for me to get out of a block because I can easily dig through some samples and get hit with inspiration right away.
At the end of the day Iv’e also learned to stay persistent. Blockages don’t last forever, but quitting will make them harder to overcome.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m King Swank, I am a rapper known for my raw lyricism and ability to adapt to different styles. I explore themes that come from my personal experiences and the unique energy of the two cities that raised me—Minneapolis and Atlanta. My versatility sets me apart from other artists; whether it’s switching genres or delivering high-energy live performances, I bring something fresh to the table every time.
The most exciting part of what I do is performing. There’s nothing like the rush of being on stage and feeding off the crowd’s energy. I love crowd participation and always find ways to make my performances interactive—it’s how I really connect with my audience.
Right now, I’m working on a lil side project with a producer in Virginia named E, I don’t wanna say too much, but it will be something to look forward to.
When people hear my music or come to my shows, I want them to let loose, embrace a free-spirited, IDGAF attitude, and just vibe with the moment. I’m all about achieving your goals and staying loyal to the people who go hard for you, and I try to bring that same energy into everything I do.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Versatility: Being able to adapt not only to different genres/styles but also being able to peep different situations.
Persistence: Being an artist is full of ups and downs, and staying persistent through challenges is crucial. Just keep pushing forward.
Connection: Whether it’s through business, collaborations, or just engaging with you listeners, building a real connection with people is key.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Uncles, they are the type that will always keep it real with me, and check me if I’m getting out of place.
